My favorite 45

I started off with a Colt 70 series Gold Cup. Had to sell it before moving out of NYC. Next up is a 1943 Ithaca 1911A1 when we did some swapping back many years ago. My last one is a Springfield Armory one that bascially has all the bells and whistles. That one has well north of 30,000 rounds through it. Still keeps trucking along. Frank

I prefer revolvers over semi-automatics, but when I do carry a semi-automatic, I prefer the 1911.:)

I would say I prefer revolvers to autos also. I down to 6 45's in the 1911 family (& a 38 Super Commander) and 3 Sig 220's. The DA and SA revolvers outnumber them. I keep full moon clips loaded by the hundred!

A friend once said "A 45 is too large to conceal." I sat next to him at Church the next week and warned him I would be carrying a 45. After church (and out of public eyes) he still couldn't locate the 45, I pulled up my sweater and showed him I had on 2 1911's and 2 220's and a spare mag for each! (two in a belly band , one OWB 3 o'clock, & one small of the back. It wasn't the most fun I've ever had at church, but it was doable!)

I am also a fan of the M1911 design. I have a few, some Colt's, some other brands. The 1911 fits my hand like a glove and the design is pretty simple. I can easily service and repair my 1911's... if anything ever breaks. They also lend themselves to customization very nicely.

I'm an old fashion, tried and true 1911 guy. Its my favorite pistol and I own a bunch of 'em. :D

This has been my EDC for over 20 years now. Its a 1959 Colt Commander with a few light mods. Had it refinished by Colt about 10 years ago. Still looks and shoots great!

Here are some of my other 1911s. Its an older picture. I've added a few more since this was taken.

Several years ago I asked a gun Forum (maybe it was here) to suggest the next gun to add to the following accumulation of vintage firearms:

Large revolver
Small revolver
Side by side shotgun
Hunting rifle
12 gauge riot pump shotgun
Single barrel trap gun

The suggestions that came back included:

M1 Garand
M1 Carbine
1911
Something in 22 LR

An M1 Garand did not interest me, an M1 Carbine does interest me but it's a "no go" as it's a felony in my state, and I once had a 22 rifle and I sold it. However, all of the positive information on 1911's persuaded me, and the local gun shop had this 1943 Ithaca M1911A1:

For me, a WW2 1911 was an excellent round-off to my accumulation.

What a hard choice

I love 45s and I love 1911s and bow do I have lots of them

I love 1911s so much that I was born on John Moses Browning's birthday

I will start with a couple of my favorite Smith & Wesson 45s. This first one is a Heritage series Model 25. It is plenty accurate and good looking as well

When it comes to punching holes in paper, the Smith & Wesson 845 is hard to be beat. If you like shooting a Model 52, the 845 will thrill you. I added the wood grips to mine

This thread tends to be heading toward 1911s. My very first NEW handgun purchased was a Colt Gold Cup back in the late 70s (still own it today). I put many tens of thousands of rounds down that barrel before thinking about replacing it. This was a hard choice, but I went the route of a Les Baer Targetmaster long slide. The larger mag release was added by request and the pistol was then finished in Baercoat. I had Les laser etch his logo into the smoothed wood grips. This guy can really shoot

Colt was my first path into 1911s and I still appreciate that to this day. My BBQ gun is a Royal Blue Colt Gold Cup Commander wearing Colt Custom Shop Elephant Ivory grips. I carry this in a Galco Windsor holster. This pistol has been to four funerals, three weddings and two inaugurations so far. :)

Now for something really weird. I love carrying 45s for personal protection. Along that line I have a Boberg XR45S that makes a GREAT pocket gun. Despite it's petite size, this little pistol has a a 3 3/4" barrel and a capacity of 6+1

Although the majority of my menagerie are .38/.357 revolvers, I do own a number of .45 pistols. I have a bunch of Colt's and a 1943 Ithaca. If I'm not shooting a wheel gun then I'm usually shooting a Government Model.
