Every time I go out hiking or fishing somewhere crowded I get asked about it, here's one of the best pieces of gear, gun related or otherwise, I've ever purchased: The Hill People Gear kit bag. I've now owned four of these, two I still own, one blue and one multicam, and two I sold, a green and a blaze orange. I spend most of my free time doing something that either has me in the water or has me wearing a backpack waist strap (or both!), which makes traditional IWB, OWB, AIWB, whatever holsters useless. The kit bag got the gun off my waist, but it's been worth way more than that.

The one that gets used most is my blue one, so I'll show that off as it's currently configured, for fishing.

The kit bag is a three pocket bag that sits on your chest with a mesh back and straps across your sides for stability. It has a few loops of webbing on the bottom, which at the moment has my tippet, hemostats, and some flotant.

The front pocket opens at the top, has a few connections or loops for attaching nonsense, and a couple of smaller pockets inside. I wish I could say what I have in there, but I'm pretty sure it's nippers, split show, gum wrappers, and whatever other **** I toss in there but forget to take out.

Second pocket is a fully opening zipper pocket. It has two smaller pockets which I've filled with leaders, indiciators, and similarly shaped flat items, and the rest of the pocket has fly boxes and/or my phone. It also has loop side velcro/MOLLE webbing along the back should you wish to attach anything.

The third pocket, if I'm the one driving, gets a handgun. It is a similar setup to the second pocket but lacks the pockets, velcro or webbing. Pictured it has a Glock 20 to give a sense of scale, it will also hold a 4.2" .44 Redhawk (pictured below) but that's about as far as I'd push it. It also has a loop for attaching a trigger cover (not pictured).

Even when I'm not carrying (if someone else is driving, I'll happily take the chance for a few beers on the river) it has been an excellent piece of gear. The multicam bag holds my binos and calls for hunting, either will hold snacks and camera for hiking, and the weight distribution is top notch. Highly recommended for anyone who needs to wear a pack but still wants to CC.
