My first 28-2, what can you tell me about it?

It has the six inch barrel which should be a plus for range use. Those stocks should be ok for the range, but a set of Pachs may be better. Football Targets would be better still, not to mention more "correct", but can be a little pricey.

The finish looks better than the standard bargain basement blue these usually got. It doesn't look refinished so I am assuming that it got polished and finished on a good day at the factory.

Those grips look like they might be made by Herrett's, but I'm not sure. All the Herrett's that I've seen fit much better than those appear to fit your frame. They would be a target style in any case. If they are Herrett's, there may be a sticker on the inside of the grip identifying them (if the sticker has not been removed. But based on the fact that the edges of both halves do not line up properly, they may very well be a knock off of the Herrett grips. The checkering also does not look quite right to me compared to what I've seen of the Herrett grips. Yours kind of look like the hole that fits over the pin in the lower grip frame is misplaced on one of the grips or maybe is wallowed out for some reason. Have you looked inside the grips?

GREAT 357 shooters those m28! And they say a GP100 is a rugged 357... pfffftt.:p

You did very well on the price of your 28 for what they seem to be selling for these days. :)

Bought my 28-2 about 4 years back for $475 with the original slim grips. Not sure if they would be called magnas or service grips. Anyhow, my 28-2 is between '76 and '78, can't quite remember exactly when I was told it was shipped. I tossed on these N-frame targets as I like the feel and look of those better on this N-frame. She is dead accurate and even the stoutest 357 loads are a breeze out of it.

First pic shows the original grips. If someone would be so kind and tell me what exactly they are called. Second pic is with the target grips.

The M-28 is a M-27 without all the "chrome trim" so to speak, one fine revolver to be sure. Those stocks appear to be Herrett Shooting Stars, most M-28's came with the magna service stocks. I have a set of slightly modified Shooting Star stocks on one of my M-28 shooters, works well for me. Enjoy that one!

... Have you looked inside the grips?
I have looked inside and there is nothing but more wood. I got this set of target stocks to put on it because I love the way they look and feel.

Ok, took the old girl out to try her out today. Loaded her up with some mid range 125 gr. loads first. She shot about a 6" group offhand at 25yards, not too bad but I was hoping for better. And then I loaded her up with some 130 gr. XTPs over a max charge of 296. This load has done well in other guns and did not disappoint this time either. This is three cylinders full offhand at 25yards. This was also my sight in target with one click of elevation adjustment halfway through.
