I was out and about yesterday carrying a M&P 40 compact in a FoxX hybrid holster. While stopped to merge onto the road after exiting the instate I was rear ended. (minor injuries for both me and my wife, not sure about car damage yet). After stopping my wife from getting out and beating the *&(*& out of the other driver I called an reported the accident. When the police arrived I kept my hands on top of the steering wheel and told him "I'm licensed to carry and I am carrying". The officer said ok and proceeded to take down the information for both parties. After boarding me and placing me in the ambulance (standard procedure for car accident) the EMT's had the officer with me while they got my wife. Me and officer chatted about which we liked better M&P's vs Glock.

When the EMT got back he asked me what I was carrying, I told him and he said he had a fullsize and had just shot his friends shield and like it also.

After arrived at the hospital I told the doctor/ nurse as well. To my surprise they didn't freak out. They told hospital security who came took down the make model serial etc.. As it turns out they have a safe at the hospital for just this reason.

What he said ^^^. Good deal in preserving your presence of mind. Thank you.

I hope the injuries were VERY minor and quickly healed.

It's sop to go to the hospital after a. accident?

In a situation such as the OP described it is probably best to get checked out right away. Too many people try to tough it out or fail to recognize possible injuries until several days later.

The arthritis in my neck is worse because I toughed it out after having my car totaled by an idiot who hit me from the rear at what the police estimated was 35 miles an hour. While I was stopped at the end of a half-block-long line of traffic waiting for a light to change.

Don't do that "I'm tough, I'll be okay" stuff. Get checked out. Pretty please.

Thank you for the well wishes.

We are not sure the exact extent yet, we both had minor head and back aches. We opted for the trip to the hospital just to be sure. The X-rays were normal for us both and today is staying home and taking it easy.

Being that we live in MA I was really concerned about people freaking out.

Glad you and your wife came out of the accident relatively unscathed. It's good to hear that when YOU do things the right way, things turn out as they should - at least in this instance.

Had to make you feel good, didn't it?

Glad you're ok and also glad to know that the officers in the N.E. are as logical about armed good guys as they are in the south.

Thanks for posting this, it is a scenario that I often wondered about. You didn't mention a problem so I assume it went fine, but I am curious about how you got your gun back.

Best wishes to you and your wife's speedy recovery. Ed

When I got discharged I went to security, gave them my drivers license and carry license and they opened the safe and gave me the pistol, clip and ammo. The hardest part was waiting for security (it was about 1 am when I got discharged)

Wow! My first contact with law enforcement after getting my concealed carry was a traffic stop for speeding! I think I was better off paying the ticket rather than getting rear-ended.

Glad the LEO contact went well for you, and I hope you and your wife recover quickly.
