My first Model 1896

I've been after one of these in good functional condition for years now. For one reason or another I have never even had the opportunity to handle one before now. I'm very pleased with this gun for the whopping $150 I somehow ended up paying for it.

The stocks match, all parts match, and I think aside from a bit of a buggered screw and a scratch where the idiot slipped in the process of buggering the screw it's mostly just neglected. The action is basically perfect. I don't think the stocks had ever been off it.

Looking over the pictures now it's clear I need to go do a bit more rust removal, but it still has a remarkable amount of blue on it. All in all I couldn't be more pleased at this moment. I suspect this will be a lot of fun to shoot, and it's a real pleasure to finally get to handle one of these.

That's another one I would like to find in shooter condition for my small collection. That's a steal at that price !

Of course it does. It's just bursting at the seams with pride and wants the world to know all it's patent information!

I need to try to tinker with light some more. The gun actually looks a heck of a lot better sitting here on my desk then it does in those pictures.
