Picked this Gun up for $400 from a private seller. Is this a good deal? Does anyone know how to take out the safety lock and replace the hole so it looks flush? How can I tell when it was made by looking at the serial number? What kind of trigger modifications can I do with this gun?

I think you got a good deal on this pistol. Gun prices tend to be regionalized, and here in Central Texas you could expect to pay anywhere from $350 - $500+ depending on condition, box, documents, tools, etc. I normally shun the Bodyguard as I just can't get over their looks, but I wouldn't mind owning one like yours. In my opinion, one of the best and easiest trigger modifications you can make is to get a steel hammer and trigger to replace the MIM parts. I'm not trying to start a war here, but I have 2 J-frames without the IL or MIM parts and 1 J-frame with IL and MIM parts. The trigger pulls of the older J-frames are vastly better than the more modern J-frame revolver. I don't recommend the use of reduced power springs, but a good cleaning and ensuring that that the inner mechanism is free of burrs and lightly lubricated should do you well.

Best of luck and welcome to the forum,

Dave

Sorry, but I forgot to mention that one of the forum members, Bullseye Smith, makes "the plug" to take care of your IL issue. John is a real gentleman and I have used his "plug" on my 432PD. It installed easily and looks good. I'm a very happy customer and recommend "the plug" very highly. If interested you can usually find his ad in the Accessories section. I'm away from home now, but I'll try to post pictures later.

Regards,

Dave
