I just brought this little charmer home today. Model No. 1 3rd Issue. I am waiting to hear from Roy about when it left the factory. I am guessing about 1870.

Everything works perfectly. The fit of the parts is wonderful, it is like a little jewel.

I doubt I will try to fire it, unless I can find some BB caps or some CB caps. I would be afraid to shoot it with anything else.

because, even if I wouldn't shoot it. That's a charmer, all right.

I also like these little Model 1 revolvers, since you can carry several in one pocket that is if you have a concealed carry permit. I have a few and have shot them all with CB ammo. Mine all function well, but most shoot about 5 feet off the mark at 7 yards. They are not target pistols!

I have to abmit that I have tried to load 22 shorts with 4F black powder, but there is so little powder there that I have had bullets stick in the barrel. Don't know how they used to load these with BP; maybe used a much finer powder than is available today.

Have not tried BB, but would think they are a safe bet in a pistol in as good a condition as yours.

Just heard from Roy. It shipped in September of 1870. This makes it the oldest gun I own.

That's exactly what I have been looking for. A blued #1 3rd issue. I have a #1 2nd Issue, in about that condition, and it needs company.

That is a really nice one! I like to keep a couple on the coffee table to play with when I am watching the news. About as much fun as shooting them. Mark Twain commented on the No.1, something to the effect that if anyone ever shot him with one, and he found out about it, he would be very angry.

glowe, " 5 ft. off the mark at 7 yards !" Don't you mean " 5 inches ?" I shoot my Model 1s occasionally, with CBs and sometimes Aquila sub sonic shorts, and at seven yards, the groups can usually be covered by your hat. Ed.

Sorry to disappoint, but I have four Model 1's and they are all very inaccurate. Hold on to the one you have!

Don't know if CB ammo would shoot high, if I aim at the ground in front of the target, I can get it on paper. The shot groups are OK, but the sights are way off on most of my Model 1's.

Still it is great fun to shooting them!

Congrats! I think anyone interested in early revolvers should get one. They are interesting and remarkable precision in that they date back as the earliest cartridge revolvers ----- and as collectibles go, a nice one doesn't take a mortgage.

My First Tip Up - New Question

Howdy Again

I noticed some numbers inside of my new Tip Up. I have attached a photo. The characters R2 are stamped on the front of the cylinder and the rear of the barrel right under the bore. I am brand new to Tip Ups. What are these markings? Are they assembly numbers?

"What are these markings? Are they assembly numbers?" Short answer - YES! Carefully remove the stocks and the number will appear on the frame also. Your 1st, 3rd is in nice shape at the barrel/cylinder area. Most are corroded badly in there. Mike #283
