I am posting this in honor of a good friend of mine.

My wife's uncle passed in the 70's and his wife stayed close to the family ever since then. Well, she remarried about 6 months after me and my wife married in 1990. I first met her new husband at a family get together and was introduced to Glenn that day and found out he was really into guns and self defense training. I myself had just hired into Corrections a year before and was just getting in to guns at the time and he suggested we go shooting sometime. When we met at the range I had my Taurus 92 and he showed up with a bag of guns. The one I had the most fun with and shot the best was his S&W 686.
Over the years we became good friends (despite our 30 year age difference) and he taught me a lot about guns and encouraged me to become a Firearms Instructor for my department as well as a armorer for S&W, Ruger, and Remington.

We spent a lot of time throwing lead down range or just talking about guns in general and he always brought the S&W 686 knowing it was my favorite. He had sent it to S&W for the recall and had them do some trigger work on it while they had it. It is smooth as silk and locks up tighter than a drum.

Last week my good friend went to meet the Lord. I will truly miss him. The funeral was beautiful, and if numbers mean anything the amount of attendees attest to the amount of people he touched in his life. He was one of the most honorable men I have ever had the pleasure of knowing.

His son called yesterday and asked me to come by his dad's house. When I got there he presented me with the S&W 686 and two Marlin 30/30 rifles (1893 and a 30AS). I was awe struck; he said that his dad had specifically stated that he wanted me to have them. This is something I will cherish forever.

I hope this made sense and did not bore you to death, I just had to tell someone that would understand what this meant to me and I felt those here would.

no not boring at all, and a great way to have something to remind you of your great friend, not that you would need anything, i have several guns from a friend that was 35 years my senior and a long time gun buddy. not one day goes by that i don't have some fond memorys of him.

true friends leave you guns when they pass. great story...thanks for sharing. that 686 is a very nice piece.

I reckon it says something about you when a feller thinks enough of you to pass on some of his treasures to you.

That's what friends are about.

Great story and I'm sure you will cherish them forever and think of him often.

Thanks all, he was a very interesting person. He will be missed.
