My Great-Grandfather's Gun

This one has been in the family since long before I was born. My great grandfather carried it as a duty gun some sixty or seventy years ago. I remember my grandfather had it as a personal piece when I was a kid. She's been a safe queen for the last 25 years or so. Serial # is 506XXX. No letter prefixes. Any info on this old family friend would be appreciated.

A very nice 1905 4th change M&P. I'm beginning to believe everyone has at least 1 in the family, or at least should have. Others will have more valuable info.

Based on the serial number it was made in the late 1920's or early 30's and they are great guns. I bought one just like it at a gun show this year and then sold it a few months later to fund another purchase.

Looks like this gun may have been refinished. The shadow line (or light line, if you will) next to the forward screw on the side plate indicates that buffing has removed the sharp edges from the mating surfaces. That happens when a worn gun is prepped for refinishing.

If so, it may have been renickeled at the factory. Take off the stocks and look at the frame for an "N" and a date code.

Nice old gun. It's good to have a revolver with a family history. None of my forebears were gun people, so with the exception of an old Colt .25 that came to me from an uncle, I don't have any heirloom weapons. I envy people who do.
