My gripe with store QR codes

".. it's dormant for the rest of my life and gives me no hassles." And you are being tracked everywhere you go by your absolutely necessary cell phone. I was going to ask what a QR code is, but Rusty posted a picture of a black scab that I'm told is one. I live a simple life; God, guns and rock n' roll.

They get you one way or the other. The Giant grocery store near me has a Bonus card for savings, which I have. They also list prices in the aisle for products that require a coupon from their flyers, available at the front entrance. Now they have another set of prices on certain products that are only given via their download able app.
Personally I wish they did away with all the coupons, advertising gimmics and special bonus cards that do nothing but add cost. I'm tired of jumping through the hoops that some nitwit marketing major set up.
I quess that's why I like shopping at Aldi.

John

PS I also like Aldi's 25 cent shopping cart policy. Keeps the parking lot free of carts and tends to keep the Karen's and other undesirables out of the store.

Maybe you oughta get the app . . .

OK, I went to Sam's Club about a week ago and I bought an item that had a price listed, then it also had a "scan and save" price (I think that is what they called it). I didn't really pay attention, I thought the item was just on sale. When I get to the cashier, the item rang up at the higher price. I questioned it and they explained that I needed to get the app, and scan the QR code to get the cheaper price. I pay an annual membership to Sam's Club so I can get items at discounted prices. I didn't pay the membership fee to have to jump through other hoops to get cheaper prices!!!!! In addition, you must have a stupid smart phone to be able to take advantage of these QR code "deals". I find this policy extremely discriminatory against people that choose to not have a smart phone and to old dudes such as myself that do not want utilize my phone as a repository for advertising apps!

Then today I filled up my truck gas tank at Sam's Club and the attendant came up to me at the end and said I could save additional money (I can't remember if he said 5% or .05 per gallon) if I down loaded the app and used it. Now I was really getting annoyed by this company that I pay a membership fee to, and they want me to do extra things to get their discounts!!!! I hate that these QR code "deals" exist. Do I have a valid gripe or am I being an old fogey????

I can pick up a couple of bucks in change at any Aldis around here by bringing carts back. It's surprising how many people are to lazy to push a cart back for a mere quarter.

I for one appreciate the luddites who voluntarily pay more so that I can pay less. I thank y'all . . .

Unfortunately many (most?) stores are doing this now. I hate it, but it's the world we now live in. Discrimination against older people who don't use smart phones, I say. Okay, some of us do use them, but still . . .

Let's compare our collections and I will -ONLY- count the ones I've gotten because I was able to use this phone and still log all my hours at work. I won't count any I got at a gun store or show.

You get to keep any you got by carrier pigeon and don't forget to come back lickity-split with a reply via forum, internet and your computer which, wow, they could never possibly track. :D

Regionally, I see enterprising youngsters asking if the can take the cart back for you.

They are respectful and not demanding.

25 cents for a cart is inflation adjustment of the 2 cent bottle return we geezers remember.

Beleart

Returning those bottles kept me supplied with BBs.

I don't know of any of us geezers who ran into the car in front of us because we were trying to answer the landline at home.
