My rant re: selling a gun

Sgt. Schultz, “I know nossink!” I wouldn’t want to need a lawyer to get me out of that one. I believe “knowingly” requires some effort to find out, not just, “meh, not my problem,” but that’s just me apparently.

The FAA requires pilots to become familiar with all aspects of a planned flight - weather, airspace restrictions, runway lengths, and so on. I see this as similar. A pilot can’t just say, “I didn’t knowingly plan to land at an airport closed for resurfacing and crash into a work crew.”

Yes, it is . . .

Also, “verbiage” is defined as speech or writing that uses too many words or excessively technical expressions. It is akin to irregardless in my opinion. A popular word that doesn’t mean what one thinks it does . . .

Is "knowingly" included in the verbiage of the code? One thing I've noticed with alarm is that when stuff goes wrong a lot of America assumes that you should have known or (worse) you must have known.

Totally different, but then I’ve actually dealt with federal criminal charges in regard to this actual issue. Pretty sure I explained the issue in my post. You should read it. ATFE doesn’t require anything even close. Pilots have a pilot’s license. Private sellers have nothing of the sort. Comparing apples to ammunition . . .

I won't comment on your ATF stuff, but I did get hit in the side of the head with a hard green apple once, and would have sworn that I was shot. So it seems to me that apples might be closer to ammo than you think.....:D
As for the OP, I wouldn't waste my time on it. His gun, his rules, my time, my rules.......

Sounds like Doofus is living rent free in your head. I would click past that ad so fast the Internet would spin, even if it was selling my birth year grail gun. Too many all caps and bold type almost guarantees an argument . . .

No, LOL, that was just the most egregious example of push-back I've had so far. In reading the responses, it seems that many of you have though that my excerpt is at the START of my ad. As in this....

It is your gun and you can sell it however you want. But, I would probably wouldn't even finish reading the ad unless the guns description was forefront ....

No, I can assure you that the gun and description are forefront in the ad, LOL.

You might want to go to home of prospective buyer and meet family and pets. Financial statement might also be in order .

Cute, very cute.

I don't mind going through an FFL, most of my guns are through an FFL. I wouldn't respond to your ad. I just don't like the attitude of it. ...
I'm sorry I couldn't write this post in a kinder and more gently manner...

No worries, I wouldn't have posted this if I were sensitive to opposing opinions. Indeed, I'm hoping for tips to improve the responses.

I have sold guns as well. My ads always said need FFL, all legal rules apply, etc. ...

Maybe doing something in simple language like that. Then, when I get the usual responses to the ad, my first response could be the terms as in my original post. What say you?

One of the only things I add is

I'm neither broke or impatient. Serious inquiries only please.
.

RJ, I LOVE that one!

What would you folks think of THIS wording as a more inviting ending to the ad?

++++
If interested, all legal rules apply, and the transaction will have to go through an FFL. I'm neither broke, nor impatient. Serious inquiries only, please. Thanks for checking.

Better. But, you will always get the "don't need an FFL" low ballers, guys that want you to drive 100 miles to show them the gun. Whether or not that stuff bugs you is up to you. You chances of stopping most of them from responding is near 0

s/s, you're right. SO, here's my follow-up. I hope I've massaged it a bit nicer:

I am willing to drive to your FFL in metro Phx, within
reason, for the transfer. I just want to be clear on the
expectation/s.

We will meet at a licensed gun dealer
You will fill out the Federal 4473 form
You will pay the dealer's fee for the transfer
You may be subject to background check (unless ccw)
If all goes well, THEN we exchange cash-for-gun

IF any of the following apply, then we can't proceed...

... you just moved to Az less than 6mos ago...
.... you're not an Az resident..
.... you don't have AZ Gov't-issued I/D w/current address...
.....you are not yet a citizen, or Legal Permanent Resident
....you know you can't, or won't pass a background check

Oh, and I price a gun so that it's still going to be a deal even after a $30 transfer. Ideally, I don't lose as much as I would with consigment fee of 20%. ,
Thanks!
