My Hackensack Luger (Stoeger .22 Luger)

I took the Jersey Luger to the range today. Following the usually flawless advice of the internet I stocked up on CCI Mini-mags as several sources (probably the same guy in his bathrobe with different user names) said it was the best round for this gun. Well, they all went off, but the toggle stopped halfway down on 3 or 4 out of every mag and had to be bopped into battery.

I had a box of Armscor HV hollowpoints and every one required bopping.

I rooted around in the detritus at the bottom of my range bag and came up with about 40 loose Remington Thunderbolts from a long-ago spilled bulk pack. 40 grain LRN, lightly coated with Cheeto dust and dog hair. They all worked perfectly, no toggle-bopping required. Hit dead on at the point of aim in neat 2-3” clusters at 20 yards.

Maybe you just need to coat all of your shells with Cheetos and dog hair.:D

Thunderbolts……glad to hear your Luger likes them. We have a bunch on the shelf. My wife’s Browning and my K22 are good with them as well, even though they seem under-rated on various forums.
Also happy to hear Tito is doing well. If he finds a new forever home, let us know.thanks

Got one

Mine will normally shoot every other mag without stoppage but does require a bit of a helping hand on the toggle to go into battery when it does stop. Don't think I have ever experienced an ejection jam, all feed related.

I have shot mine so much the plastic round cocking "handles" are starting to chip from the recoil. Yours looks like it's hardly been shot at all.

I picked up a second one from my local gun seller that was in non-working condition for $50. It was just gummed up with old lubricant. Sold to my brother, who sold it within a year! should have keep it for a second shooter.

If anyone is still interested I did a little ammo test at the range today.

CCI Stingers - oh hell no. The first one hung up bad just trying to chamber it. After that it went 5 jams for 10 rounds attempted. These were the only malfunctions that needed more than a gentle toggle-bop to chamber. This gun hated them.

CCI Blazers - 10/10. No problems.

Aguila HV - 9/10, but with an asterisk. I got a click instead of a bang once. The round seemed a tiny bit longer than its pals and nose-dragged on the front of the magazine. I bounced the mag on the bench once, it slid up, and all was good.

Aguila standard velocity - 7/10. Three rounds needed a gentle bop to seat.

The Dreaded Thunderbolts - 10/10, then 50/50. This was a fresh bulk pack to eliminate the possibility of Cheeto dust lubrication. The gun just gobbled them up.

Problem solved. I have enough Thunderbolt bulk packs sitting around here to keep me shooting until my hard drive goes dark.

Also, this ad claims an expert can get 660 rpm out of this little fella. Something to shoot for!

Edited for Tito update. Still there yesterday. Its tough for older dogs.

Sounds like a great little shooter.
Ammo fussy pistols are not at all uncommon that's for sure.

Hoping Tito finds a home as well.
Maybe a name change for Tito to Stoeger (or Luger) would help his adoption chances.

A quick update. My Jersey Luger is still going strong. It goes to the range with me almost every week, and its record with cheapo Thunderbolts is still flawless. This is my favorite impulse buy.

The smooth grips always bugged me a little. I upgraded with these checkered ones from from eBay ($29).

Tito found a home, but there are always dogs at the shelter who need some walking and attention. This is Mila.

Ended up with 4 Stoeger's over the years, first one was a J&G purchase in Prescott. Still have the box and paperwork. Second was from friend at work and the other two were GB parts guns. Two are steel frame and two are aluminum. All had the nylon trigger bar screw that didn't hold very secure. Jack First makes a steel replacement that is a little longer and makes it easy to file and fit for a snug fit on the trigger bar. The aluminum and steel have different thread pitches for the grips also. Have a complete bolt assembly, spare barrels, grips and some small parts for them. Six factory mags for each and a factory loading tool for the magazine. All shoot great using the Winchester M22 ammo. Two parts kits (minus receiver) sold for $171 on GB the other day, original box with paperwork sold for $49 in eBay.
