I manage to squeeze enough time out of my schedule to put in an order for some cabinets for my little house. I'm trying to condense the kitchen into a small area to save as much room inside my cabin as possible.
I still got a way to go to. Here is a picture. This is just a mock up. It will look better once everything is fitted and painted.

It seems to be coming together nicely for you. I'll look forward to seeing more updates. Maybe you could combine all your additions, improvements, and progress into one thread so we could see how how far you've come and how it's all beginning to take shape?

Either way, keep us posted on your progress.

Been there done that.

Made sure there were NO holes on the counter top area, to drop stuff
and naturally there had to be a overhead microwave for the little lady
and a smoke vest over the stove/Range unit.

Good luck....
remodel/updating is not cheap any more.

My family built Houses and Apartments (from 3 a family building to 1000 unit complexes) And I can recommend that: if you put a fan hood over the stove, spend the extra money and effort and install a hood that is vented to the out doors! With all the kitchen windows you can get away without one, but the unvented ones just blow smoke and steam around your kitchen!

Our kitchen cabinets are in the early stages of build from a somewhat local, ma and pa, custom cabinet maker company. Everything is done in their shop. Their company story mirrors our company's history. In our way of thinking the "who" and "how" are as important as the "what".
All are a light grey stained, raised panel hickory. No fillers, no plywood. Our island will be maple a solid bluish/gray paint.
We had a few other folks look at our project. They all talked of using stock cabinet sizes with filler strips as needed and one guy even suggested cabinets made in China. Ugh! You get what you pay for.
Our house is post and beam and we have mostly wood walls in our kitchen, so the difficult thing has been picking out the floor, backsplash and small amount of paint to keep things a bit lighter and brighter.
All that said, I redid the small kitchen in my shop with stock cabinets and engineered flooring from Lowe's and honestly, it looks great.

I wish I had your advice when I was getting my house built. It makes a lot of sense.

I did my kitchen and dining area last year. My wife and daughter picked out cabinets at Lowes. Custom line so they had to be ordered. 3wks delivery. 5th week on Fri night when I got home wife says cabinets coming in morning. So I tore out the kitchen Fri night. Everything on the deck and only thing left was supply & drain for sink.
Next morning as promised Lowes delivers cabinets. The guys were carrying them into garage as I was checking them off as to size, ect. They had heavy cardboard caps top & bottom and corner protectors. Under this cabinets were shrink wrapped. Wife and daughter tore shrink wrap off a cabinet and it looked like Cheetos across the finish. Others were the same.
They had been wrapped while finish was still wet. I told them to put them back on the truck. Wife was more upset than me. I put old sink base back in and counter top with sink, 2x4 legs for support, brought fridge back in off deck and ordered cabinets from 84 Lumber. Ordered before noon on Sat and had them Tues. These were middle grade cabinets and much nicer than Lowes in same price range. I have seen low end cabinets that the only thing supporting them is the glue holding OSB back, they don't even have a hanger strip across the top.

These are what Lowes had in stock. I went with the unfinished cabinets. Seems like I made the right choice after reading your comment.
These airnt the best cabinets they offer but I'm happy with them. I was not happy with the shipment. Lowes used an outside company. These guys were wreckless. I would had made them send the cabinets back if they was damaged.

I got other things. Some members of my family criticizes me for the order I'm getting the material. The truth is most of the stuff I bought was on sale. I know if I don't jump on it while its on sale. It will cost me more later.

I will never buy anything from lowes that has to be ordered. They delivered the wrong kitchen sink 3 times. The guy that ordered it wasn't at fault. I sat right beside him when I ordered it. On forth sink I thought I had the right one. I didn't realize until I started with garbage disposal that they sent me a deep variation. I barely had room for disposal but got it in.
I did end up paying 1 cent for sink instead of $427. Their computer doesn't allow give away.

I been lucky with lowes so far. My worst experience so far is with the local lumber yard that I bought my meter pole. The guy disrespected me in front of the customers and coworkers alike. I came real close to telling him to shove that pole where the sun don't shine.
