What's with the moon clips on these models? Do you have to use them? Why'd S&W make them so that you could use them?

Regarding the moon clips, I have a hard time getting them to work just right, it's difficult to line up the 8 holes and if the clip gets bent and some of the rounds don't fit flush they won't fire. Short, fat rounds like the .45 probably work a lot better. Luckily you don't have to use moon clips with this revolver, you can load them up by dropping them in if you want.
 
I keep the three clips that came with it loaded up next to it on the bedside table but, when out just plinking or whatever I load the rounds in single. Though I have gotten quite good at reloading with the moonclips, they are a tremendous pain in the ass to unclip. Bout gotta pay 30 bucks for a tool or make one yourself.
