My Model 69 Finally Arrived

... I also hate to see yet another STAINLESS gun 'set-off' by contrasting blue controls, those things mostly likely to corrode fast with use! I wonder if the color-case is intact under there if you stripped that blueing off?...

True "color case hardening" has been a thing of the past with S&W since MIM parts. These are not case hardened, but just colored with dyes or some such (like Ruger and lots of others). That does not mean the parts are not good; the are! However, they are not color case hardened, just colored.

Did an initial range test last AM. Even with the less than perfect trigger pulls it showed itself to be accurate. With .44 Magnum 240gr factory Speer Gold Dots and Hornady XTP loads it generally stayed in the timed and rapid fire ten ring at 25 yards. Recoil was quite unpleasant with those loads however! Have shot worse, but it still isn't something I'll do regularly. The 200gr Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel .44 mag loads were tolerable, however. PMC 180gr JHP .44 Specials were easy shooting, but not as accurate.

Not sure exactly what the best use of the M69 is, yet, but I think I like it! Night sights are probably in it's future. Maybe will temorarily add a micro reddot for deer hunting this fall. But also having evil thoughts of doing a .41 Mag. or something weirder... Maybe if another shows up used. I suspect there will be some after folk put a few full house .44s through 'em without prior experience wielding such joint pounding beasties...

At least it doesn't peel off skin like the J frame airweight .357s.

Thats a real handsome revolver. If/when they make a 3 inch I'm gonna be all over it. I sure hope Ahrends stocks fit. I've never been impressed with the factory ones.
