I just thought I'd share with you all my finished project. It is a highly modified S&W 37 that I altered so that I can either shoot it with the snub barrel, or when I'm really needing to go into "secret squirrel" mode when the SHTF, I can unscrew the barrel for an ultra compact highly concealable super duper snub.

Whaddya' all think of my creation? :D

(Seriously, has anybody had a Model 37 fall apart on them like this? One day the barrel just came loose, and I unscrewed it all the way so I could send the photos to S&W so their tech dept. could see for themselves. They did say they would repair it).

So that's why all of mine have a pin.

Gee whiz, that barrel pin might not have been an extraneous expense after all.

My movie trivia skills are lacking but I can recall a guy in a movie using a no barrel snubbie to avoid ballistic tracking.

Have you checked the frame to see if it is cracked? That could be the reason the barrel came loose and unscrewed. Look at the bottom of the barrel channel in the thin area where the yoke cutout is located. If you see a crack, then 1) that explains why the barrel came loose, and 2) that revolver is toast and S&W will have to replace it.

I like the idea. Then s&w could sell extra barrels in various lengths so you could make it whatever you feel like for the day.

Iggy, somebody very wise understood that deleting the barrel pin was best, you see, the barrel pin is very small, and if it falls out, it will be very hard to find if it falls, say, onto a carpet. Now, a barrel, that's big, if a barrel falls out, it's much easier to find. See? Sheer brilliance on the part of whoever made that decision to delete the barrel pin. We must not question the wisdom of that decision! :-)

JDBoardman, no, I don't recall checking to see if the frame is cracked, will do, thanks for the tip.

To all, thanks for the laughs, I knew I was gonna enjoy the comments on this one! :-D
