Hello all, I'm new to the forum but figured that I'd share my newest acquisition, a Model 36. I've been looking for an older S&W snub for some time and this one was for sale in a local classified and I picked it up. So far I'm very happy with it. The serial number dates it to right at 1961 as far as I can tell, and the stocks are original - I'm guessing since the gun's serial number is also stamped into the inside of one of the stocks. No rust or pitting, the barrel looks great, only the bluing is well worn from a long life.

Here it is, I just brought it home yesterday:

Here is it in a cheap suede IWB holster that I butchered up for pocket carry. I've got a nice leather Galco on the way.

Glad you're here, and nice M36! That looks like a shooter to me, too.
Please re-post after your first range session. I'd like to see what your
impressions are. TACC1

I went out back after work this evening and went through a box of Remington UMC 158gr LRN. Shooting those through my Model 65 is akin to a .22LR compared to how they feel through that Model 36. It's not painful by any means, but it definitely takes more control for fast follow-up shots and after about 30rds in 5 min it starts to get a little uncomfortable.

I had about a 12hr period last night where I was considering the 36 to be a replacement for the 65, meaning I would sell the 65 to offset the cash I spent yesterday. As much as I like to shoot I don't want to have the 36 as my only plinking handgun now!

Welcome to the forum. Glad you like your Mod 36. You may want to get a Tyler t grip for the little J frame. I think the grips on the 36 are small and don't fill the hand adequately and the Tyler t allows for more comfort and control.

I like my J frames but I wouldn't get rid of the Mod 65 either. Keep both and enjoy them.

My co-worker who recently retired showed off a S&W 36 NIB with box he purchased 28 yrs ago at $200.00-he never used it and left it in his locker, I offered him the money he spent to get it, my lost he said no. Great pistol you have.
