With the current troubles in the US auto industry, I started looking for a new GM car in April. The rebate incentives were nice and I spent the last 7 years charging everything I could on my GM Mastercard (5% cash back towards the purchase of a new GM car / $500 a year maximum). I had built up a $3500 GM Mastercard rebate and I wanted to use it--and not risk loosing it. If I waited and GM went under or filed for bankruptcy, I could just see my $3500 sprouting wings and flying out of my pocket.
I settled on either a Malibu or Impala. I spent two weeks going to numerous dealerships. After seeing an ad in the local paper, I found a small local Chevy dealer that happened to have a brand new 2008 Impala SS on the lot. The Impala SS stickers at $31-32,000. They come loaded with everything.
My car was the only 2008 Impala SS they had. Sticker price was $32,000 but with all applicable Chevy rebates and incentives, it was priced at $25,000. I call that a decent price. After deduction of my $3500 rebate, I got it for $21,500. Sold my 2005 3.5 SE Altima for $12,000 and used that money also.
