Everyone that follows me on this site already knows about me trying to buy a new truck. I been driving a 2001 Chevy S10 that been follow apart. Yet still running even with it's problems.
I got turned down on every car loan I tried to get. So I decided to put more effort on my torino. Well my s10 develop yet another problem. Lose of power. I switch out it's filter. Problem fixed... For about a week. Then it started losing power again and worst. I decided to replace the fuel pump. My pastor told me to bring it to his house and we will fix it together. His house is just down the road from mine. So I agreed. Well, it was harder then we both thought. We replaced the fuel pump and got it running. On my way home I lost control of my truck and turned over into a flooded ditch. I was going about 30 MPH. My truck got stuck on its side. I carefully climb out of my driver side window.
The county just scrapped and bladded the road. It was like driving on marbles.
I managed to get a friend and some of my older cousins to help pull it out. And to my amazement. My truck still runs and I drove it home. But the inside is flooded. I'm going to give it a oil change and shampoo the seat. My S10 has rubber floorboards. So the damage is minimal. Hell the radio still work.
All this happened yesterday. I spent all last year dealing with depression. This accident gave me a fresh look at life.

All this truck has to do is last long enough to get my credit up for a new truck. For now I'm happy it runs.

Post picture later. I can't get it to upload.

I am glad that YOU are OK. The truck can be replaced. At one time, I had a bad credit rating. I worked very hard to fix it. You can do it and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for a better future. All things are possible.

Thank you! I gained some respect the the Chevy S10 model line. These are some tough little trucks.

My '88 S10 Blazer was a tough one. I had it for 4 years and sold it to a friend, mostly because it was just a little bit too narrow for a gorilla like me. He had it until just past it's 20th birthday, with well over 420K miles on it. Two transmissions, a bunch of water pumps, two valve jobs and timing chains on the 4.3 Chopped 350, and not much else, except damage from 3 incidents was repaired. The first was right after I sold it to him, it was sideswiped by a guy who was having a diabetic issue, and was sliced open like you took a knife to a pop can. You could look inside from just behind the driver's door to almost the rear taillight. No rust, looked great for 4 years. About a year or so later, it was stolen, and just as the insurance company was going to pay him off for it, it was found quite a ways outside of town by a train crew, the interior had been trashed, but mechanically it was fine. A junkyard interior was swapped over by my friend and his oldest kid, who would be the first of three that were taught to drive in it. A couple of years after the first time it was stolen, it got taken again, and was just taken for a joyride and had only a couple of burns on the console and reeked of pot. It went on and on, and finally got so rusty around the top of the windshield, it was like driving in a shower stall when it was raining out. And at that point, it was driven to the boneyard by my friend's youngest son, and sent off to whatever awaited it. My friend considers it the greatest vehicle he's ever had. It was one of mine, too. All I had go wrong in 4 years/50K was a battery, a recalled starter,a broken clamp caused a minor oil leak, and a piece of trim fell off inside. Every time I see a decent one for sale, I really want to buy it.

I've always loved the little S-10. I've had several over the years in pickup and Blazer versions, 2WD and 4WD. Our latest is a 2000 4X4 Blazer that was given to my youngest daughter by my Mother-in-Law last year when she turned 16. The in-laws bought it new back in 2000 and it had just shy of 120K miles on it when my daughter got it. The proverbial car driven by a grandmother to church on Sundays:D

The S-10's were my truck of choice after driving 1/2 and 3/4 tons for many years. I had 3 of them, all with the ZR2 package. When my wife and I retired, I switched to 1 ton trucks to pull our large 5th wheel trailer. After my wife passed away, I didn't want to travel alone, so I sold both the truck and trailer, but since S10's no longer existed, I ended up with a Colorado ZR2. It's a great truck and I love it but it's larger than the S10, nearly the size of a 1/2 ton.

I had a 96 S-10 - hunter green, manual transmission with nothing but A/C, not even a radio. Bought it from a dealership that did a lot of fleet sales. I know I paid less than 10 with the 4 cylinder engine. I drove it for nine years and put 180K plus miles on it.

One day coming home from work the timing belt broke. The engine was pretty much shot, since it went while I was doing about 70 on the freeway.

Had a mechanic buddy of mine take a look at it to rebuild the engine. Decided not to, but a buddy of his wanted it for the body which was in great shape. Sold it for 500 and moved on. By that time you couldn't get a stripped truck if you wanted one, so I ended up buying a Dodge Dakota.

I bought a 96 S-10 Blazer in 98 with 40K on it for about 1/2 price of new. It was 4WD with 4.3L Vortec V6. I ran it for 20 years (2018), put another 200,000 miles on it. Gave it to my son when I got a 2003 4WD Tahoe. He is still driving it. The Tahoe has the Vortec V8, now has 309,000. The engine runs like new, the car is solid and reliable. I just do regular maintenance on them. The Vortec engines go forever and have plenty of power.
