New here, hello. Up till now I have been an autoloader guy but I came across this from someone for $440...I think I did well. It has a 3" barrel and EFFECTOR written on the left side of the barrel. I did a little research and figured it could be a Jovino. I will have to write S&W to find out for sure where it was sent. There seems to be little information out there on these. I shot it yesterday and it is very nice, though I admit it barks and lets you know when you run 44 Mags through it. I feel like I lucked into the best bear country sidearm, it's just a great size but as I know little about S&W revolvers of this era (or any other era) I am wondering about the wisdom of running Federal 300gr cast flat points through it? I realize already that this would not be pleasant but seems like a good load. I fully intend to practice with 44 Special. Thinking about some new grips but I admit I like the size of the Pachmayrs that are on there, just ugly. Any suggestions?

First off you Stole it.
You did really well by the way.

The 300 grain bullets. I have only ran them in a Super Red Hawk. They are going to be real unpleasant to shoot in your gun. Next issue is if they are seated short enough to chamber in a 629.

It will be a lot of fun to shoot with 44 Specials. I always reloaded for my 29's and 629's. I mostly shot 240 cast bullets with 8 or 9 grains of Unique under them in 44 Mag brass as my all round trail and range load.

For grips Altamont makes some nice ones, as does Ken Ahrends.
If you go with Altamont ADD S&W Medallions at the Check out for $10. Super Rosewood is what S&W normally installs from the factory.
Ahrends is more into exotic woods, which he makes into some really great looking grips.

I have 3 sets from each makes, and they are all nice.

Wow, that is the deal of a lifetime, you flat out stole it.
That is a piece history from when big bore revolvers ruled (I think they still do) enjoy your sixgun its a gem

Thanks guys, it is a marvelous piece of machining. I'm going to have to ponder the grips. I love the look of wood but glenncal1 makes a point with shooting with the pachmayers. I've been told to move this to the 629 club...didn't even know it existed. New in town. Thanks for the replies.
