Finally got my (new to me) M-59 to the range today, and it was outstanding-one of my best ever first times out with a new pistol. I first ran thru all 5 magazines fairly quickly, with mixed ammo load in each, just to get a feel for function. Then on 8 yard silhouettes I pretty much shot out the K5 ring every full magazine. I was running so fast the rangemaster actually had to slow me down at one point (rapid fire and fast doubles are kind of frowned on here). This pistol runs great and hits POA every time.

I added the smooth Hogue grips, scored 4 extra mags off gunbroker for $65, and just found a Bianchi IWB thumb break holster at the local gunshop for 1/2 price. The whole package is coming in under $500, and it's exactly what I wanted

sdrct,

Nice, clean 59. I like the grain in the grips.

When the 59's came out, I lusted after them something fearful but never pulled the trigger to get one. Many years later I got a 659 which I liked very much. Like every other Smith auto I've owned, it was a tack driver much like yours.

Sounds like you got a good one, congratulations.

Cheers,
dan

Nice gun, looks alot better with the wood grips. I just bought a nickeled one with 39 grips modified to fit it. I like it alot. I've have 39s since the 70s but never owned a 59 until recently. Theres always something new to look forward to with guns.

Moosedog- I used to own a bright nickle M-39 that looked just like your 59. I really liked that pistol, I have never understood why I sold it. When I bought my 59 the dealer also had a nickle one with black grips, but I waited just one day too long and it was gone. I think I came out pretty good after all, this one is a GREAT shooter, and she cleaned up pretty good.
