My New M&P 9mm

After a year and a half with my SW9VE I was looking for something a bit more polished. I just sent in the paperwork for my Utah CCP and I thought that there was no better time to upgrade. After much deliberation and a few weeks of shopping and reading I finally settled on this glorious firearm.

This bad boy will be carried every single day and will it's share of range time as well.

Very excited to move from the VE and still stick with the Smith & Wesson family!

It also includes that handy speed loader and an extra magazine(3 total)/magazine holder. The holsters are made by Bladetech, a company I have never heard of before. But after inspecting and wearing the holster I have found it to be extremely comfortable and well made. I'd definitely recommend the Carry and Range kit for anyone considering purchasing the gun.

Bladetech is one of the premium holster makers and a long favorite at Gunsite.

This holster makes an excellent training/IDPA or belt carry holster but you'll probably want something inside the waistband for daily carry. Crossbreed and Minotaur are the two ISWB holsters I use for this duty. No need for a Milt Sparks (although I do like them!).

Got her out to a local indoor range yesterday. Ran 200 rounds through it with three different brands of FMJ 115gr. No failures of any kind, extractions and the like functioned perfectly.

I am not a polished marksman and this weapon is primarily for home and self defense/concealed carry. There are several things that I liked about this pistol over my SW9VE. However, a friend who went shooting with me allowed me to fire his XD40. I had fired a XD9sc previously and felt very confident with it. I decided on the M&P because of it's reputation, simplicity, and my personal experience with the company. I found myself to be very confident with this XD40. Anyone have any tips or recommended reading I could do to get my on the right track to being equally as comfortable and capable with my M&P? Or should I sell it and just pick up an XD because my two experiences with them were quite pleasant?

It's all about preference. I've held an M&P and shot several XD's and the Smith just felt better in my hand. How much are you going to lose money-wise if you keep the M&P for a couple more shooting sessions to see if you can improve your shooting? My guess is not that much.

So my advise is to keep the M&P for a while. Could it be that since you've fired XD's before that is why your more comforable with them? If you don't get as comfortable with the Smith, go trade it in for an XD. Both are high quality pistols and I don't think one is that much better than the other aside from personal preference.

And while it shouldn't influence your decision if you're uncomforable with the M&P, there is something to be said about having a different firearm than your friends.

I have a 9VE and kinda dreamed about getting an M&P.
Good choice. A little nicer than the XD IMO.

I've had XDs, I've had an XDm, I've had a 9E (same as the 9VE, but with a Melonite slide) and I've had M&Ps. I prefer the feel and finish of the M&P over all the others. My biggest issue with the XD series is the Glock-like trigger safety; the bar in the middle of the trigger just doesn't feel right to me. The M&P is the best of the bunch, in my opinion...
