I saw this S&W advertised locally and approached the seller with a trade offer. I gave him a Ruger Sr9c with a holster and 8 spare magazines and got this model 19-3 +holster and about 150 rounds of .357 magnum ammo.

It's the first revolver I've ever owned/shot and I love it. The SN is 7K 6-something so I believe its from around 1974.

7K would indicate 1974-75. These are not the most pleasant revolvers to fire using .357 Magnum ammunition. You will probably be happier using .38 Special ammunition for recreational shooting. It will also be easier on the revolver to do so.

Kevin, good trade. That is a staple of the shooting world. If you put rubber grips on it, pls, save the wood. Get some 38 wad cutters and shoot the heck out of it. Mike 2796

I think you got hosed there. But luckily for you I'm feeling generous. So I'll trade you a Ruger 😇

The biggest blemish on the gun is on the grip and after shooting it Saturday I discovered where it came from. The brass being ejected hits right there. (you guys probably know that already though) So the advise to get some rubber grips makes 100% sense and that is exactly what I will do.

I shot both 38 special and 357 magnum and did not find the 357 to be unpleasant at all.

I had fallen out of love with the Ruger SR9c some time ago and had it listed for sale anyway. My plan was to sell it and use the proceeds earned to buy something like a S&W 686 anyway so when this 19 showed up it seemed like it was meant to be. I'm really happy with it.
