My new Model 53

Wear your ear muffs! That and the .256 win mag is the two loudest ear hurting blasts I have ever experienced rifle or pistols! I have a 6" 53. I haven't worked with it in years but do have a good amount of ammo and dies.

Congrats on getting one of S&W's neatest revolvers. I am a huge fan of the 53 and the Jet cartridge. This is a somewhat scarce revolver, less than 17,000 were made, IIRC. Prices and demand are rising. You just HAVE to shoot this revolver to fully enjoy it, hurry to the range.

hope you reload. shooting Remington ammo is extremely loud. never without good ear protection. right now, finding the right bullets may be difficult.hornady makes a bullet in .222 diameter just for the jet, sierra make .223 diameter hornet bullets also. neither are being made currently though. brass can be bought from some of the wholesalers too. pm me if you need a list of possibilities for brass and bullets. forming cases is an advanced pain in the backside and expensive for the form dies.

Not to flog a dead equine, but I wear plugs under my muffs when shooting my 53 with factory loads. No recoil but Boy Howdy on noise.

Thanks for the comments everyone.. Recently got my C/R and had a chance to remove my stuff that has been storing up at the LGS for the last year... The collection thing can be all addicting but I prefer calling it a passion. For those that don't get it the passion is hard to understand. The history, workmanship and for me the target shooting (exercising our ability to shoot straight and master our personal best) is what it is all about. I also have a an early 1960 not posted that is incomplete without box.. I plan on shooting that one.. I suppose it is time to start loading my own but just haven't gotten there yet.. Working on it!!
