My new to me SKB 200E goes hunting!

I posted back in the spring about the 12 ga SKB 200E I picked up. It was a companion to the 20 gauge Model 100 I have owned and loved for 20 or so years.

Anyhow, pheasant season is upon us. I promised a report so here it is. So far I've done well, 8 shots and 7 birds (yesterday a rooster required a second shot. Well, now I know the modified barrel works too!). Here's a picture from one outing

I loved that 20 gauge so much I named it. Since it was absolute death on the skeet field, on grouse when there used to be grouse around here, and pheasants, plus the fact it was nimble as a fly rod, I called it The Death Stick. This 12 gauge seems to be all of that, plus just a bit more powerful (being a 12 that is) so I named this one The Elder Wand.

Yes, that is in deference to Harry Potter!

Nice SKB in 20 ga, they are nicely built guns. Great picture with the birds and the gun. Always admired the SxS made by them.

Can’t wait, next Saturday is the first of 3 pheasant hunts at the club. I ended up getting a Victor Sarasqueta side lock in 20 ga for the weight being around 6 1/4 pounds. Getting older!! Your SKB is around the same weight with 26” bbls I believe. Have fun hunting with SKB, Larry

Larry that's actually the 12 gauge pictured (AKA The Elder Wand.) I got it as a companion to my 20 gauge. It weighs a scad under 7 lbs, and that's with 30" barrels.

The 20 gauge (AKA The Death Stick) weighs under 6, with 28" tubes. I've had that gun for over 20 years.

Nice guns - light weight for carry and good stock dimensions. I've had a few of the Ithaca/SKB versions. The 20s are too light for me (too whippy - I prefer 6.5-7lb field guns), but the 12s fit right in to my preferred weight.

The only problem I've had with them is the wood has a tendency to crack. The butt stock cracks at the scalloped portion of the frame and I had a forearm crack on me too.

I agree, the 20s are light. I specifically sought out a 28 " 20 in order to help smooth out the swing; it helps. Those 25" barrels don't work for me! I had the M/F chokes opened to suit my needs.
