My old PD, now on the 9mm bandwagon....

Where does one go to get cheap .40 S&W police trade-ins? Are there multiple dealers or does the LPDept. sell them? I'm kinda thinking on one as it would be one more gun I own that I presently can't find ammo for.
I'm serious for once. I've never seen any PD trade-ins except for the 3 Berettas I got from Italy agencies, through DK sports in VA.

They show up on various websites, typically those which specialize in MilSurp/LEO trade-ins.

It's also worth noting that for some odd reason, sellers don't always market them as such upfront, so you basically have to sift through used guns, read the descriptions, and find the ones that specify them as such.

That being said, pandemic gun-buying has largely diminished the availability of .40cal police trade-ins, and since most PDs across the US have already traded in their .40s for 9s, there aren't nearly as many fresh trade-ins, just secondhand used sales.
Still, if you keep an eye out, they still show up.

Certain online stores who deal in MilSurp/LEO trade-ins even have YouTube Channels where they post videos whenever they get a fresh shipment in, so if you subscribe you'll be notified immediately, and can jump on any good deals that turn up.

This small gunshop in my little town just bought out a local SO's handguns. I think they ship, too.

Before the COVID led panic the usual online sellers were awash with ex-LEO Glock 22s in the low $300 range. June 2020 I was about to buy one when one of my grail guns came up and diverted the funds.

I don't know your definition of cheap, but you might check Bud's, they seem to have quite a few:

If you have a nearby Cabela's, they have occasionally have some.

Everyone who wants to get shot in the face with a 9mm, raise your hand....

Just learned the department updated their duty weapons to, of all things a 9mm.

------

This replaces the S&W M&P .45 FS that was adopted very soon after I retired.

So there should be some PD trade-in 45's coming to market soon ... It's a great time to be alive with all the weapon churning happening.

HCSO Deputy Ali Salinas was shot in the right side of his forehead with a 9mm using Federal 115 grain holliwpoints. He lived, but has minor function problems today.

Yeah, I bet he does.

And I also bet he wouldn't raise his hand to my question....

I think the FBI declared it to be best and opened the flood gates. The ammo for the 9 has greatly improved, however I really never felt well armed and comfortable with one and preferred one that started with 4, 44 Special, 41 magnum, 45 ACP.

My old Police Department, "New South Wales Police Force" (State Police - 18,000 Police Officers), was apparently going to switch from the .40S&W Glocks to the 9mm Glocks in 2020. Then Covid hit and everything has been put back. All that funding would have dried up by now.

I always just assumed that the same "improvements" that make the 9mm so much more effective would apply to the more powerful calibers as well.

I carry 9mm because:
I don't plan on shooting a lot of people and
It's the most cost-effective to shoot a lot of as a non-reloader.

That's interesting. I (ignorantly) assumed .40 cal was more of an American thing. Didn't realize it was used around the world.

What was once old is new again. Yes, the FBI has gone back to the 9x19 and along with them, plenty of other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies.
