I recently added two 945's to my collection so it was time for a new "Team Photo". I couldn't fit the info for each individual gun in the frame like I did in the 1911 picture, but there are two basic divisions, the original 'no-dash' and the dash-1. They came in four barrel lengths, 5", 4", 3.75" and 3.25", and either stainless or black, all in .45 ACP except for a single 3.75" model in .40 S&W (second from the bottom in the center column). The 4" stainless model in the very center is extremely rare due to the straight cocking serrations. All the others have the wavy "fish scale" serrations. The prima donna, and my favorite of the group, is also very rare, the black & stainless 5" dash-1 at the upper right. It has the polished flats on the frame as well as the slide, and wine colored grip panels to set off that color scheme. If you've never owned or fired a PC 945, you owe it to you yourself to do so. It is one of the most accurate pistols ever made, by anybody.

945 Collection

Bill,
That is such a wonderful collection. The fact that you gathered all the "boys" up and made them sit still for that picture!!!Thanks for sharing and lets hope other forum members add their pics and
we can call this the ultimate 945 picture thread!!!I count 14 product codes in the standard catalog of Smith and Wesson. Do you concur? How many do you have?

There isn't anything wrong with that pic. Thanks for sharing, I haven't even seen that many for sale in the several years locally at least

Well, I'm not certain about the total number of product codes, but all thirteen of the ones pictured are different, and my searching has lead me to believe that I'm only missing one version, so you may be right. That would be the full-size no-dash 5" in black just like the one at the top left, but with straight serrations instead of fish scales. I saw one when I first started collecting, but didn't buy it, and I haven't seen another one since.

Here's a little closer look at the no-dash models, with the full size 5" pair at the top, the 4" inchers below them on the right and the 3.75" inchers below and left...

And the dash-1 models, with the 5" versions at the top, the 4" on the left, the 3.75" on the right, the 3.25" pair at the bottom, and the 945-40, the only 945 chambered in other than .45 ACP, in the middle.

I said it before & I'll say it again: very impressive!

Thanks Tom, that one goes straight to the top of my 'Ghost Gun' wanted list. That's the first full size 5" PC model of any type I can remember seeing with a fixed rear sight.

Bill, I admire both your 945 and 952 collections . I would suggest one more to add to the 945's: the 5" fixed sight with accessory rail version.
Good Hunting!

I believe that the recent 945-1's with a rail for sale are legit, experience tells me that they will probably not letter.

I agree, I talked to the seller of one of those railed 5" guns and found out that it had belonged to a law enforcement type who had gotten it from a S&W rep.

AWESOME!!! I love 945's! I only have one a 945 compact.

Bill:

Thanks for the very impressive "Show and Tell". I can only imagine how diligent you had to be to find all of those product codes. It will keep me motivated to find my "holy grails"

Very impressive indeed! I was not aware of the two shorter barreled models. Thanks for sharing and good luck on your quest for #14.
