LGS called this morning and said my replacement 642 was here. Sent in the broken one on 7/22 and sure have missed it since it's my EDC gun.
Checked it out when I went in to sign the papers and it looks good and the trigger even feels pretty decent. When I pick it up after the 10 day waiting period I'll put 50 or so rounds through it before I go to see the Sheriff to put it on my permit.
Sure hope this is my last go around with returns!

What are these things you speak of! Ten day waiting period, putting it on your "permit". Oh, sorry! I just saw where you are located. Just kidding! Don't hate me.

Yeah, don't give me a bad time because I live under a communist regime:(
I keep trying to talk my wife into moving but she likes the weather and her friends but if Commiefornia gets any worse we may have to pull up stakes.

I hear you. We are all under assault! (individual rights)

Congrats on getting you snubbie back... I hope she runs for you.

Reference the waiting period: I would think if a person already has a gun of similar design (i.e. another handgun), the 10 day "cooling off" period would be waived.

Since they have access to another gun to be "hot headed" with, there would be no need to deny access to the new one in an attempt to have them cool off. We all know this delay is based on false logic and "feel good" legislation so I guess for us to think the law should make sense is asking a lot.

I'm sorry for you oppression and the infringement of your Constitutional rights. :(

Not to rub it in, but it is good to live in a state where I can walk into a store, buy a gun, holster, and bullets and be out the door in 15 minutes. OBTW, I can do it while packing any (or several) of my other handguns!

People, let us never become over-confidant or complacent. Our Second Amendment rights nationwide are under attack as I have never seen in over 40 years of dealing with the antis. Please continue to write your legislators, and by all means, join the N.R.A., if you are not already a member. It's much easier to do than to enroll on the A.C.A. website!

You are so right. I upgraded to "Life" when they offered a deal in February. But, this still isn't enough. I plan on giving a little to the NRA-ILA soon.

I totally agree. Here in VA, if you send a gun through an FFL that come back from repair, or it is replaced with an identical model, you do not have to get a background check again as long as its within 30 days. I love california, but I hate california.... Lived there a little while and had to go through a few 10 day waiting periods myself..

Here in NY we have a Governor that thinks his is the ONLY right way to deal with anything. Push legislation through in the middle of the night and it is just fine. Forget involving the people that live in the state you govern. He is an elitist jack#@@ and I can not believe he got away with it.
I am moving to NC next year after I retire and while I will miss my friends and business I will not miss the government in this state.
Congratulations on the 642 and I hope you have many years of enjoyment with it.
Be safe, Frank.

I knew it was time to leave New York State when I would open the Sportsman's Guide catalog and, next to most every listed shooting accessory, I would find the code letters indicating no sale in NYS and/or NYC.

.....

California 10-day wait is no surprise...what's an eye-opener is a three month turnaround on a warranty return? What the (censored)?
That sure seems excessive to me.

congrads also on the 642 does it have the internal lock? i know you will enjoy it. i live in a liberal state i know what you mean!

What was wrong with the orginal gun? Three month turnaround time? That is terrible.
I currently have a Kahr P380 in for warranty repairs and am not happy with the 4 weeks turnaround time I was quoted.
I have sent 2 Springfields in and had both back in 8 days. I also sent a Para USA in and had that back in 10 days.
FWIW when the Kahr comes back, I will be trading it in/for a 642 or a 442.

I've sent back a couple of handguns in for warranty work.
Fed Ex picked it up at my door. When the repairs were completed, they were returned to me at my door. No 10 day wait.
The 10 day wait and new DROS are only required if the serial number changes.

jrod is right, no waiting period or DROS for a returned firearm. Unfortunately my 642 had a broken trigger pivot so the frame was unrepairable. When I sent it back the summer shutdown delayed things a couple of weeks, then they were even more backed up in warranty because of being gone, then the replacement order had to go to production to be scheduled and I have heard that 642's are the most popular S&W revolver model (don't know if that is true or not but they are in demand). Add it all up and it made for a long wait.
Like I said, hope this one lasts. This is the second Smith I have had to send back for replacement in 2 years. The first was a Bodyguard and I replaced that with the 642.
