My SD40VE

I wish you'd ask your friend for some more details about exactly how this happened, and to confirm that it was a SDVE. Unless he had his finger on the trigger, it's hard to imagine how that happened...unless maybe he had the slide locked open, knocked the slide release off, and there was a slam fire, which would involve the striker sticking in the forward position.

I'm no expert, to be sure, but it's hard (for me, anyway) to imagine how bumping a SDVE on a picnic table could make it fire.

He said he raised up quick and hit the back of the slide on the bottom of the table and it discharged. He's a very big guy and hit it fairly hard. He is knowledgeable about firearms, carries and owns many firearms and works on a lot of his own stuff. He said this one was not modified in any way and he is well known to be trustworthy and honest so I'm not sure what to make of it. I have heard of firearms with very light trigger pulls drop firing or bang firing, but, from everything I've read, the SDVE's can't get down low enough for that to be a problem. He had just purchased it so it may have been used or modified and he was not informed on purchase or could've just been a rare defect. I do know he got rid of it after that. He sold it to a gunsmith for what he had in it.

I certainly didn't intend to imply that he wasn't being honest...I wanted to find out what happened, because as far as I know, this is a very unusual malfunction with a SDVE. Of course, as I said previously, I don't know most, much less all...so there is always room to learn. :)

I wasn't meaning any disrespect towards you by my comment. It just comes from years of experience on forums and how things can go at times. Just rather err on the side of caution. No harm, no foul. I found it unusual as well and coming from anybody but him, I would've been less inclined to believe it, hence another basis for my comment. Part of my joining this forum was to research this issue and other info about the firearm I purchased and so far I have not been disappointed with the help and info I have received. I look forward to many more lively discussions. ;)

The Apex spring kit and polymer trigger has been ordered and will be shipped shortly. After all of the posts on here, I can't wait to get it all installed and head out back to my range and try it out. :D

I'd like more detail on how this bumped and went off? Stock gun or modified?
In a proper holster covering the trigger, or in his pocket.
Unless there is a defect in the pistol, either from the factory or by his own hand, I can't see how it discharged without the trigger being pressed....

Mado....great group of folks here. Very, very helpful and respectful.
I too am on a ton of forums. Everyone I have dealt with on this site has their ego in check, which is a very nice surprise!

I had the chance to question him more on it and he said that apparently it had been improperly modified before he bought it which he was not informed about and not aware of. The guy he sold it to disassembled it and found the problem and just replaced some parts and it worked fine after that. He also had a Glock do the same thing and doesn't see the SDVE as anything but a Glock copy too. Which is why he didn't investigate further when it happened and he is very partial to his Sig P229 Scorpion. lol

I haven't had any issues so far on this forum. A lot of great info and discussions from knowledgeable people and just guys with great questions. ;)

Thanks for clarification Mado... I don't plan on being an SD owner much longer, but for those that do...it's great information.
As you're well aware of, many stories like this propagate throughout the Internet with very little supporting information.

I'd also like to know how that happened to a Glock...but that's another topic.

Thanks for clarifying...

put the apex kit in the other day and took it out today. BIG difference! absolutely love the lower trigger weight, after 100 rounds, my finger still feels fine. may get the stiffer guide rod, but it feels good so far.
only problem I had with the install was getting the slide lock lever to line back up, and at the range today the pine kept walking. took a hammer and punched it in a little more than flush, that appears to have it lock in

A few of us have that problem. 100 to 150 round mark? Should just snap in. Assuming you mean the trigger pin. Use a dab of clear nail enamel to hold it in place....
You shouldn't need a hammer.
