My son got an amazing phone call

My son is a senior and of course the buzz this time of year is what they will do after high school. His best friend has been talking about joining the Marines.

Tonight his friend calls and tells him he signed the paperwork today. If he dies in battle all his possessions go to my son.

Not unlike WWll and perhaps Vietnam. War does strange things to those who are going to be in it, especially the young. What makes sense to someone who may die in war may make no sense to someone who is safe and secure.
