My son called last night. Since the latest market crash he is convinced that Armageddon is just around the corner. He is buying sacks of rice and beans and of course another assault rifle with a 50 round mag which he may need to protect his rice and beans. It did get me to thinking though. What if our food transportation supply chain was interrupted? The whole nation would be starving in two weeks. Our whole country takes food for granted. Then there would be large scale lawlessness and violence in an effort to survive. We probably have more to fear from large scale disruptions than of guns in the hands of terrorists.

I think I'm a border line prepper after watching a movie a couple years ago about a computer virus that shut down all the power supply in the world. Since then i keep a two month supply of freeze dried food and two month supply of gas for the generator.
and of coarse enough ammo :D
It just got me to thinking how easy things can go down hill in these days of technology controlling everything

Aloha,

This year is a Bad one for Hawaii.

Right now, we are wondering how close Ignacio will be to the islands.

So far this year, there have been several close calls.

The statement made by the weather service is "Not IF a hurricane will

hit Hawaii, But, WHEN!!"

More and more people are getting nervous and are stocking upon supplies.

Today, the Wife and I will be going to the big box stores and stock up,

Just in case.

IMO: Regardless of whether a full blown nationwide catastrophe ever occurs I believe it's still a good idea to have at least a 3 month food supply on hand and whatever else is deemed necessary in order to survive on your own.
Local catastrophe's occur all the time and you never know when one might hit in your area.

I've thought about the whole prepping thing, & I came to the conclusion that with all my health issues, all my prescriptions, I don't stand much of a chance of survival. I do have a goodly amount of ammo, so I tend to lean towards the "making a dramatic last stand" idea. Oh well, who really knows?

Well I got nothing to worry about, I figure I can survive a week or so on my body fat;) If it really gets that bad, this old man is going out in a blaze of glory. I.e ya want what I have, come and get it, but understand I'm going to take a bunch of you to Hell with me.

"The whole nation would be starving in two weeks."

Two weeks? The big trucks completely refill the grocery stores every day. And most people have no food at home - stopping at the store on the way home from work to get something for supper. If something happens and the gas stops pumping, so the trucks stop rolling, the stores will be empty in two days, and people will be starving in three.

People might be hungry in three days. I don't think you know what "starving" is.

Nothing wrong with being "prepared".
Problem is...
People have the perception that preppers are the same as inbred extremists (thanks to media).
But, somehow the media is what makes most preppers prep?
Funny how that works out - isn't it.

Keep it simple stupid is my motto.

Anyone in the northeast knows the grocery stores can be cleaned out in less than a day. Evidence, when a major storm is forecast and if the next delivery doesn't come, it's game over for store bought for items.

Beanee Weenees

200 or so cans of beanee weenees is the staple of my food prepping. No fresh water or can opener required. 2 year shelf life.

A man can go a long way on a couple cans of B-W's.

SPAM!!...the survival food!..ifin ya didnt know it...spam is also a fuel for fire. slice off what you want to choke down...and the rest will burn with a good hot flame....fried spam is better than road kill...sometimes

and it seems to have an indefinite shelf life..if kept cool and dry..

What we call prepping, was common sense 100 years ago. Getting snowed in or cut off from resupply was common.

Have what you need on hand, and rotate your stock. Have a good relationship with your maker.

I think for most in a true armageddon situation, life will be short. Good to have lots of ammo on hand, but when the hords of looters show up the sheer numbers could be overwhelming, and you likely will not get past your first magazine full.
