It's always nice when your kids come home to visit. I hadn't seen my son since January and this past weekend he and a buddy rode their new Harleys home for a visit. He got the bike a few months ago and has added V&H pipes, a new intake, changed the seat, handlebars, grips, etc., really went to town on it. Also got a computer tuner that remaps the computer to optimize everything to work with the new exhaust and intake. I rode it and I have to say that it is a helluva a bike. Tons of torque, very fast, handles and rides great. Very tempting to head down to the local dealer and order myself one! His buddy has a new Sportster 48. They rode over 1300 miles round trip and didn't have any troubles at all, the bikes performed perfectly.

It was a nice weekend for their trip. The weather cooperated and we had a great time visiting. My Dad came over and we grilled steaks and steamed a bunch of lobsters Saturday afternoon then went to a car and bike show on Sunday where they got the "Iron Butt" award for traveling the furthest distance to the show. Of course, they took their bikes and I took the old Tbird. It was a brief visit because they had to head back Sunday afternoon after the show, but it sure was great to see him.

Here's a couple of pics (he makes me blur their faces because of their jobs (USAF TACPs))....

Glad you could get the family together and enjoy a weekend visit, WC145! I am sure it was great to see your son, especially after some time apart.
I certainly hope your son and his buddy enjoyed a nice weekend. They deserve it.

I don't blame him...I wouldn't want any of my comrades in arms knowing that I rode a Harley either! :D

J/K...I've always wanted a Harley. It's getting late in life, but I might still manage another bike before I shuffle off. (I just recently sold my Honda VTX 1300.)

That's great! I think the Fat Bob is the best riding/handling bike the MoCo makes-I know, some think that's an oxymoron but true.

Sounds like a wonderful visit, congrats.

Sounds like you and your dad had a great time with your son!
Most dads can appreciate the feeling that brings as we get up in the years.

I agree with the poster who said - "I'll take the 66 T-Bird". :)
The Harleys are nice....but the T-Bird? Whole other level of cool! :D

Thanks, all, it was a real good time having him home, even if it was just one night. Always nice to see him and be reminded of how well he's doing for himself, proud to say that he's turned out to be a good man, a good son, and a good friend.

I'll tell you, the last Harley I rode was a '76 Super Glide around 1984, and they've come a helluva long way since then. The Sportster is nice, it's a 1200, makes good power and all, but the 1700 (103ci) in that Fat Bob is a beast! The fuel injection makes it so easy to start and so responsive, it's very easy to ride for a bike it's size. And the pipes, intake, a revised computer mapping really wake it up, it'll flat walk away from the Sporty. I haven't had a bike for about 15 years and one ride really brought back those old feelings, I'll even admit that I was checking out the Harley website and I could hear a new Wide Glide whispering my name.... But, it ain't gonna happen. The missus is dead set against two wheels and that's okay, we're having plenty of fun with the Tbird, just need a liiiiittle more horsepower....:D

Ha! Yeah, it sounds good on paper, the problem is that 390 (sorry, no 428:() is pushing 4300lbs of steel with a 3.00:1 open rear end. Right now it has Magnaflow dual exhaust, an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake topped with a Street Demon 750 Carb, and a Pertonix Plug 'n Play billet distributor. I'm going to spend the next couple of weeks installing a set of FPA headers and upgrading to a dual pot brake master cylinder along with a few other improvements. Future plans call for a posi 3.50:1 rear end and a 450hp crate engine. In the mean time she does look and sound good and, while she don't run like a scalded dog, she will get up out of her own way in short order!

Yeah, that's what the judges said so they called his buddy down to collect the award even though they went the same distance.

nice 427 side oiler would drop right in that engine bay. add headers and Detroit locker diff. in your choice of ratios, would run right good.
