Being a good citizen, I immediately reinvested my GVT. Stimulus Check into the local economy, in the form of a new Bergara Aluminum Chassis Rifle, in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Never owned a 6.5 Creedmoor rifle before. but wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Didn't intend it to be a hunting rifle, so figured I'd go with a dedicated bench / target rifle, hence the adjustable stock chassis version. Went with Bergara, as I know they have a good reputation, and are not killer expensive - $985.00. Mounted a Vortex 4x16 first focal plane scope I had sitting around in Talley mounts. Added a 6 to 9 inch bench / prone bipod. Rifle has a threaded muzzle with a screw on thread protector cap.
Rifle fits like a glove, action is smooth, trigger is crisp and clean, and breaks at 2.1 lbs. on my scale. Guessing about 12 lbs. or so in weight, scoped. Takes Magpul P mags, and comes with a 5 rounder. I also purchased an extra 10 round mag.
Took it to the range today, and did initial sight in at 100 meters. Tried 3 brands of ammo - S&B 140 grain FMJ BT Tactical, SIG 140 grain OTM, and Hornady American Whitetail 129 grain Interlock.
Two fouling shots, then fired two 5 shot groups with each ammo flavor. The Hornady average was .98 inch. The S&B was .54, and the SIG was .41. Not bad for a barrel that isn't broken in, only a fair rest (Using the bipod - forgot my front rest and bag. I always shoot better with bags) and a 15 mph wind. A better rest, and a little reloading experimentation, and I would expect 1/3 of an inch, maybe better. Overall, I think I am really going to like this rifle.
I attached a couple pics, including a pic of the Ruger 556 pistol I also picked up with the rifle - don't ask why, I just liked it. Mounted a Vortex red dot and a set of pop up sights on it. Fist sized groups at 50 meters, which is about as good as my eyes can do with a 1x red dot. Loud sucker with that 10 inch barrel. Average AR trigger pull, and the wrist brace works well as a shoulder stock when extended. Didn't even try it one handed. Will probably replace my Bushmaster M4 carbine as my "truck rifle" as it is more compact, and unlike a rifle, can legally be carried loaded in a car, as opposed to a rifle.
