We pay for phones for the grandkids. It's pretty complicated but my wife found out that we are paying twenty something dolllars for a phone line that we don't use, but if we eliminate it, it will cost us five dollars over what we pay now.

:confused::confused::confused:

I HATE making changes to phone plans because they ALWAYS find a way to charge more than you were paying, but of course when kids are involved this one can have this and that one can't have that then when they get older they have to have this, so it's always a mess. ATT is about the worst for that. I called them to cancel our land phone line we had for for the last 46 years and the lady was very agreeable. Then she asked if she could interest me in some 'deals'. I said 'no thanks'. I've had too many of their 'deals'.

I had AT&T internet for 15 years. However because I lived in a rural area that was the only choice and they charged me triple what the same service would cost in the city. Once fiber came to our area I dropped AT&T. When I called to cancel they suddenly had much better pricing. Sorry years too late.

Every now and then, say a year or two or three, ya gotta chop 'em off at the knees and give 'em the heave ho.

They're tricky *******s though, so they'll try to clip you on the way out.

But, cancelling the service every now and then and signing up with the next provider is the only way I know that will allow you to keep your costs down.

It is a PITA. Good luck!

Still with Verizon. Best coverage up here by far. Started with Consumer Cellular. Got voice, $20/Mo. Got internet, $20/Mo. Got Text, $20/Mo. By the time all the fees were added I was paying $76 a month for a $20 advertised phone service. Dropped Them like a hot potato as their coverage was so bad, half the time I had to go outside just to take or make a call.

Sirius XM is even worse with their "deals" and difficult separation....
in the case of Sirius, they were sued for this practice.
Some Google Fu may find cases against other companies adopting this policy.
If so, this is great leverage to get them to cut to the chase.
"I understand your company was sued for this practice in the state of (fill in blank)." "I have two numbers in front of my .... yours ... and my state attorney generals" "Do I need the other one?"

It's a common problem. Our trash service was getting worse as the price kept climbing. You couldn't get them on the phone nor online.I didn't pay the final bill and hired a competitor at 1/2 the price. Boy did they want to talk to me after that [emoji23]

I have said for years that voice mail, emails to a company are just a excuse to never respond back.

Call me a Luddite if you wish but nothing beats talking direct to a human to get results. You talk to someone get their name and if possible their extension number, time talked. That tends to motivate them!:D

My mom had Spectrum cable, WiFi, and a house phone.

Only time her TV is on is when the grand kids are there. I called to cancel everything except the WiFi. She uses my daughters apps when the kids want to watch TV.

The dropped the cable, but said if she kept the house phone her bill would be $27 a month cheaper than just having WiFi.
