I ran across a Myers Made 40 52 holster. Open up the interwebs....search search search....confusion.

Definitely NOT a Myres holster and doesn't appear to be a knock off. Just a holster maker I cannot find solid info about.

I've seen a few with the same name on ebay and elsewhere but cannot locate a catalog, fitment chart or anything similar.

Anyone got any clues?

Turnerriver has the lowdown on this maker; send him a PM. Personally I can't recall what he had to say about it!

I think Turnerriver may be on the road. I saved this from 2012.

S.D. Myres' son Dale-the Mexican Myres holsters

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The S.D. Myres Co. made holsters & other leather goods up into the 1980's;
a former employee is still using the S.D. Myres name today. A little known offshoot was the Dale Myres Co.

Dale, known as Ted, was Tio Sam's first born son. Although his younger brother Bill ran the S.D. Myres saddlery with their cousin Dace, Ted received a minority interest in the saddlery after Tio Sam died in 1953.

He worked there for a short while in a minor position;in 1956 he struck out on his own & set up a Mexican company to make & import leather goods to the US where he marketed them as the Dale Myres Co.

The company was in business for about 6 years.They made & sold many holsters that were superficially similar to the original Myres holsters but as the examples show they were not equals.

Note the screw on the bottom of the middle holster-one of Dale's more peculiar innovations was to affix a bore brush inside the holster so the gun's muzzle would sit down on the brush when holstered.

{Note by SG: Patented Medley brush, after inventor Ken Medley, not to clean the bore but for retention in the holster. Medley also made an inside the trousers "groin" holster rather like the one later made by S&W. Craig}

Ted or Dale wrote an autobiography called "The Education of a West Texan"; he led an interesting life that included a short stint as a would be competitor to his famous father. His holsters are a little known collecting footnote.

Ouch SG, that is Dale Myres but is not Myres Made. It was turnerriver who explained the difference to me once but I am not recalling the details. Not even in TX as I recall.

Who's on first?????

Myers v Myres.

I'm not dyslexic, but I'm as likely to misspell one as the other!

Maybe Myers was.......

If I remember correctly the Mr. Myers that made the OPs holster was a retired Marine who took up leather work. His shop was in Nixa, MO. I have owned a few over the years. All were well made and constructed of very heavy leather.

I was going thru my holster boxes today and I found this Myers Made holster for some type of an auto loading pistol.
No idea what it fits. Way to small for a 1911.

I carried my little Llama XA .32ACP (which looks like a mini 1911) for more than 10 years, in a Myers Made holster just like that one.

Mine says 31 71, I believe 31 is the model number and 71 refers to the year of manufacture.

Myers Made Holsters, from what it looks like, is a company based somewhere in USA who makes holsters for some of the well known brands. Just like someone having a job at a well known brand, because of that does not make them a brand. Their designs for holsters are copied and stamped with their name on it. Therefore, I won't suggest against buying their holsters, however if you are looking for a specific fitment or quality, search for the holster from the original brand and not from their copy. I would say it's worth a try at the very least.
