This magazine was in with some of my late Father-in-laws shooting gear. Wondering what gun this belongs with...looks like a single stack 9mm perhaps. I never knew him to have one of those, although he did own a nice nickeled Model 59. He was an awesome man and we sure have missed him these past 2 years.

Looks like a Model 39 magazine.

On a guess, it's a 2nd Gen single stack. Metal baseplate?

Maybe post a couple of more pictures of the profile and bottom of the magazine.

It does have a steel Smith and Wesson marked baseplate. Never seen a follower like this one. It may be a common one, I don't know.

If it has a sort of "step" in the base plate, it's very likely a 2nd Gen magazine.
The Mdl 39 mags I've seen have a metal follower.

The plastic follower makes it a Model 39-2 or 439/539/639 magazine, but it will also function perfectly in a Model 39.

The plastic follower with short base plate was introduced in the 39-2
Sn, run at A200000.
