Ladies and gentlemen of Team 3rd Gen...

Please look these magazines and tell me what I am looking at.

Poor old TTSH found a 6900-series pistol for sale offered with these four magazines. Perhaps I am losing it, but they don't look like the usual stainless 6900-series magazines to me. :o I know it's a bad angle, but the bases on at least two of the magazines appear (to me) to be flat metal.

So please give me a sanity check: Are these S&W OEM 6900-series magazines or not? And if not, what are they?

It's important because the gun needs a little cosmetic work and the value of these magazines plays into whether or not I should offer to buy the gun for the asking price.

What say y'all? :)

They look like 6900 series magazines to me.

Some with 2nd Gen base plates?

Jim

I tried it and it works, switching the base plates. It works in my 669 marked 6906 but NOT my PC9 Shorty 9.

Jim
Maybe it's just the light and the angle. It's making it look like those are two flat metal bases on the right and I'm not sure what is on the left two? Clearly, they are different.

flat metal?????

..... old 59 base plates on 69xxx mags...... I've done a couple for concealed carry
Notice how the ones on the right seem to be laying back while the ones on the left seem straight up vertical. That could be explained by 5900-series baseplates on the left I guess. Easy enough to change back. It's the ones on the right that confuse me more. But laying back a bit would tend to indicate correct 6900-series baseplates... right? They just happen to look like metal. It's got to be the lighting. :)

Perhaps the original curved baseplates on the left two magazines were shaved flat.
It is the owner's EDC, so nothing would surprise me. :o

Bottom line is that I'll have to ask for more pix if he expects me to pay his full asking price. I'd likely have to sell two of those funky mags to make the numbers work.

I'd say the metal base ones are hinting that they are aftermarket.

However I will say that the tiny 3% of handgun in the pic looks like it has a fixed Novak night sight rear sight. I like them a lot!

The problem is that I don't think there were ever any aftermarket mags made for the 6900-series until recently and those new ones appear to be almost exact copies of S&W OEM. If anyone knows of any older aftermarket 6900-series magazines, I'd like to get a look at them.

Anyway, I'll have to ask for more pix. :o No question about it.

But you did pick-up on the new sights... actually Trijicon night sights. :D With actual lit lamps!

That would be quite a treat for me on an old 3rd Gen. ;)

From what I can see, those are OEMS magazines. The two of the left might be 2nd Gen with metal base plates. I can't tell about the ones on the right.

More pictures are definitely in order.

Hmmmmmmmmm, no safety/decocker on the right side of the slide. What could that mean? What could that mean? :)

Yeah, I'll have to see if he can send them today or at least explain what we're looking at. Must decide quickly on this one.

Wouldn't you like to know! :p :D ;)

Any chance the 2 one the right are 659 mags?
I don't think so. Not enough witness holes.

DAO??????????
Or maybe a frame decocker? :D ;)

The simple answer is they are 2nd gen mags
Are you basing that on the duller/flatter appearing finish? Or something else. Since we can only see the right side, I don't know how one would otherwise tell the difference.

I think the lighting and the angle is what's throwing me off. I'm thinking the ones on the right are typical 2nd or 3rd Gen OEM 69/6900-series magazines while the ones (or one) on the right have 5900-series baseplates on them. Lacking more photos or any better ideas, I'm gonna go with that.

True 6906 mags and PC9 mags interchange flawlessly both way. I'm not sure about the 669 mags, only because I never tried.

6906 mags have a plastic contoured "Pinky" extension on the bottom plate.

You can also use a 5906 mag with or without the slide over aftermarket filler slipped over it.
