I want to drill my receiver to install a magpul QD socket like the ones that come on the Magpul 15/22's. Can someone post a couple of close-up pictures of one installed? Thanks

Well, It turned out pretty good. I am happy with it. I probably did mine a little different then the factory. I took 2 of the long QD sockets that come with Magpul stocks, counter-bored a hole on each side of the receiver, and then joined the 2 sockets together using the original mounting screw that I cut off 1/8". I did a press fit on each socket too so, it is a good, solid fit. Probably overkill for this gun: ) Warning: This project is not for the faint of heart!

Just throwing this out there...

IMO, the buffer tube attachments put the sling swivel in a better spot. The sling and swivel won't be in the way of your grip, and you can get one that's rotation limited which is a plus if you plan on going from single to two-point(no tangling).

The MOE's socket location does look cleaner, but I personally don't care for the location. When you bring the rifle up to your shoulder you'll see what I mean.

No epoxy or JB weld or would that be overkill?

No epoxy or anything needed. The screw threads into the bottom of each socket . There is 1/8" of plastic between each socket. Solid as a rock.

That sounds exactly like how the factory did it.

Thanks the QD is one of the three reasons I bought a MOE, now I can just get a standard model and add one, cheaper also.

Nice work!

Nicely done!
For those others who may be thinking of doing this, there is a slightly easier way of getting there, but you need to be able to access the inside of the gun to make a connection, and you only get a one-sided qd mount location. Check this out...I used it on my shotgun.

Or put a PB QG in your stock.
You can mount it to either side or in the center position.

After seeing your work, I'd bet there are some members on the forum that would ship their lowers to you to have you do an installation for them.

Some folks are not mechanically inclined and that looks good!

Lots of available after market options for QD, but having it on or near the receiver makes the weapon sling natural with one point and gives you quick access if needed. My right hand falls naturally onto the grip when slung that way.

You re probably right but unfortunately, it's considered gun smithing and, I'm not a gunsmith . Wouldn't want the liability anyway.
