Is the frame identical on all N frame guns, meaning if I have a 29 I could theoretically screw on the barrel (gap and other normal barrel install 'smithing to be expected, just no custom work to make something never designed to be together work) of any other caliber that came in an N frame and drop in the accompanying cylinder and it'll all play nice together? What about the fact that P&R guns have different length cylinders than than their non recessed versions, is the frame itself (cylinder space) still the same size? what about mixing blue, stainless and nickel parts from a 45 year time span on the same frame? For example: a 29-2 frame, 657 stainless barrel, and 57 nickel cylinder?
We are not discussing the appropriateness of dismantling collector guns but rather the possibility of assembling one shooter from parts of guns otherwise not serviceable for one reason or another.
