Hello all.

I am wondering if you can help me. I work for a large Police Dept. in Okla. You go through the academy with a Glock and once off probation you can choose your weapon from a list of approved weapons. I have been on the depts. Pistol Team and we shoot PPC with revolvers. I have fallen in love with them and decided to carry a Smith and Wesson 627 4 inch pro series on duty. I am having trouble finding a duty holster for it. A local company Looper Leather made me a fine holster, but it is single retention. I am looking for something with a double or triple retention in a black high gloss finish. I'v checked with all the major builders. Safariland, Don Hume, Tex Shoemaker, Bianchi. Do you have any other ideas or suggestions. I've found a few holsters on E-bay, but most are jordan holster style.

I've been out of police work since 06 and at the time carried a 4" 610 in a Bladetech holster. I don't know if they still make them but you may try there. There was one other place that custom made them and for the life of me I can't remember who.

A good leather holster with a Strap across the top will help on "weapon retention" when you're running or on the ground with a Bad Guy. Have plenty of Speed Loaders. I carried a 686 4" with 3 Speed Loaders every day. Best of luck & stay safe.

I carry two 8-shot moon clips and a 12 round loop loader. The holster I am currently wearing has a thumb snap over the hammer, I was just wondering if there was a holster that had a little more than a thumb snap.

One of the most prominent makers of duty holsters is right there in your own state--Don Hume Leathergoods. Add a dot.com to donhume and it'll take you to their website. I've got two Don Hume holsters that I like very much. One for a 4" N frame and the other for a 1911. Good stuff.

It would also be good to have your trigger guard covered such as in this picture, and spare ammo available. Don't run out of ammo. The Bad Guys carry stuff that exceeds what we do sometimes. Keep safe.
Carl

Sorry somewhat off topic: EXFEBEE:

Is that the Performance Center 627 8 Shot with 2.625" barrel?
Who makes the holster and speed loader carrier? Star speed loaders?
Are those gorgeous grips stock or aftermarket?

I have that PC 627 on order at Shotgun Sports, Anniston, AL, owner very good to LE. Your pictures have scratched me right where I itch - thanks!

(C Ur in N. FL, I miss it, I'm an FSU grad '86 and an Ormond Beach native).

Check Safariland model 070 duty holster. It is a triple retension holster that is still made for revolvers. Find police duty holsters for revolvers is getting pretty scarce, not many makers making them anymore.

Looking at the Safariland site it seems they left the N frame out on the 070 duty holster. However, they do offer it for the K and L frames. Since the L and N frames are somewhat close in size, I would suggest calling Safariland and inquiring about the possibility of having the L frame holster modified to find the N frame. All it may take is a bit of extra length for the retention straps. It's worth the call, the worst thing that could happen is they tell you it won't work.

Yea I have a safariland duty holster for my L-frame 686+. I have the triple retention safarieland 070 and the hooded holster the 6280. Both fit the L-frame and not the N-frame. I have checked with Don Hume and all they have now is the single retention thumb snap version. I see Hellweg International has some doble retention holsters where you have to tilt the revolver forward after disengaging the snap, but I can not find a US distributer.

The options for a retention holster for an N-frame are few......Safariland makes them for the K and L frames, the Level III's where you have to twist the butt toward you and then rock the gun forward. I have seen none of these for the N-frame.

I'm thinking you may have to go custom for a retention holster of the modern standard, if your agency requires a level III to prevent snatching from the rear and the side.

I'm fortunate that my Dept. does not require more than a single retention holster at this time. There are still alot of "old timers" that went through the academy with revolvers that carry the border patrol holster style with the snap on the outside and only a 12 round loop loader, no speedloaders. It is pretty cool to see them qualify though. They can clear leather and reload off the loop loader with some impressive speed.

You may also want to try Stallion Leather. They have a holster called the Thorougbred that is make for pistols and revolvers. They do list it for the S&W 625. The model number is S100JR and it lists for $129.00. I have one for a Beretta 92 and it is fantastic.

Nothing wrong with a nice Jordan style holster!

N-frame .357's, 12 rounds in loops and a hammer strap exposed trigger holster......it worked back in "the day" and it still works now!

I think there's a member here using the name "robbt" who always has a bunch of holsters for sale. You might check the Classifieds here.

Also, an eBay member called "usamike99" may have one. I've bought a number of holsters and others items from Mike; always with positive results.

Black Knight. The holster stallion leather has is what I'm looking for. I called them and they said they didn't know if it would fit my 627, but I went ahead and ordered it since they are both N-frames. Thanks for your help.

Here is what aggravates me. Smith comes out with all these duty worthy revolvers with no foresight on how WE are supposed to lug them around. You have the TRR8's and the TR 325. Whats the point if we have no way to use them?
