N Frame Leather

The quest for snub N frame leather is getting to be pointless. Even Safariland, the god of vintage factory leather, once made an M29 thumb break for snub K and L frames, but nothing for the N. It's not right.

I am very happy with my Kramer Leather Belt Scabbard holster made of horsehide, it is a "pancake" design without a thumb break. I own two of them, one for my 329NG N-frame and another for my 340PD J-frame; they are well made, comfortable and concealable.

I like the open top myself, but the thumb break is well made too.

Lobo made me a basketweave, thumb break OWB holster for my 3" model 29. Jerry at Haugen handgun leather made me a paddle holster for the same gun. Both are good holsters. Haugen also made me a rattlesnake paddle holster for my Colt Officer's lightweight. Also a good holster.

Lobo, Kramer, Simply Rugged, all good makes. You may have to wait a bit due to demand. I carry my 3 1/2" 28 in a Simply Rugged pancake, it's comfortable and concealable.

My 3" 24 fits and carries very well in a Galco OWB. It is open but molded very well. It takes some force to remove.

Lobo and Bell Charter Oak, as well as Andrews make excellent custom rigs.

If you can't find a holster for a 3" N-frame, you're not looking hard enough.

Lobogunleather (member here) made my thumb break holster for my 3" 629. Great holster although in hindsight I wish I hadn't gotten the thumb break.

I'm in line for a Milt Sparks PMK -- basically an Askins Avenger for revolvers. It will take half a year, but should be worth it. They really iron their holsters out. It's molded to the last detail.

I get the logic of pancake designs -- they spread the weight out -- but they take up a lot of waistline real estate. Pretty much belt loop-to-belt loop. My jury is out on a thumb-break. It's one more thing to think about if you have to draw (like a 1911 thumb safety...) but if you go upside down for any reason, it's a good thing. I'm using a Don Hume 715 open top right now; not because it's a great design, but because it could be found!
