I recently handled a Lew Horton 3" 624. I am in love with this gun. The only thing that would make it better is if it was chambered for 45acp. My question is this: Does the 3" 625 feel the same in the hand? As far as I can tell, the 3" 625 never came with the tapered barrel. Does the underlug make it balance significantly different than the 624? Also, do I stand a reasonable chance of finding some one to let go of their pre-lock, firing pin on the hammer 3" 625? I know they are hot guns just now.

Not me. I did have a Lew Horton 629, 3" - was great shooting .44 spl. It was a bit of a monster shooting full-house magnums.

I have a .45 nightguard that I have not shot. it is a 2"(+) but much lighter. I expect it to be a jolt.

i am a big fan of the .44 spl - very accurate round.

I've handled both, the 625 felt a bit heftier and more balanced, at least in my hand.

I love my 25-2 snub in .45 ACP, a Mag-Na-Port custom...

I have a LH model 24 that is a handful with heavy handloads, but pretty soft with 200 gr. Gold Dots, my carry load in that one. My 325 Scandium has a jarring recoil with hot 45 loads and the Ahrends grips/stocks. The synthetic grips make it much more enjoyable. I have a 3" 625 NIB that I'm afraid to shoot because it's so nice; recoil should be negligible in that one. I've got a Colt NS in 45 Colt off being Fitz'd, and that one should be a real cannon.

I have never fired a 3" 625, so can't comment on that. I do have a 3" LH 24. It is a powder puff with most factory loads (Buffalo Bore might be an exception). With handloads, it gets a little snappy when you start getting up toward Elmer Country. I think this is a function of the grips as much as anything, though it is a relatively light revolver.

To me, the 325 NG is a lot softer shooting than its weight would imply. Again I think this may be a function of the grips. They are soft and they cover the backstrap.

Most anything I have that I think might bite wears Goodyears. YMMV.

I have both a 3" 624 and a 3" 625-3. They both feel almost exact. I put factory combats on my 625-3 (they came with Tupperware grips) like what came on the 3" 624s. The 625 is lighter recoiling though, as the round has less powder available. Good luck finding a 625-3 3", the last one I sold I got $1450 for on GB about 8 months ago.

I like my 29 3 inch. The recoil is ok with the targets. I have one of the 4 inch thunder ranch models in 45acp and 44 special. The 45 is a square butt also fitted with targets so it feels the same. The 44 special has the round to square conversions so it is thinner in the palm area.

They both feel almost exact.

I totally agree.

I've always liked the .44 Special, so I picked up a Lew Horton 24-3 a couple of years ago. It's one of my favorite wheelguns.

I have a LH 624, and with Skeeter loads it gets your attention, but isn't any worse than a K frame .357, IMO. IIRC it weighs around 37 ounces. I also have a 325 NG with Spegel bootgrips - it's a handful. As stated above it weighs about 29 oz. loaded. Probably wouldn't be that bad with rubbers. The 325 PD only weighs about 22 oz! I haven't ever had the privilege of handling a 3" 625. According to the SCSW, there was a LH 3" Model 25-3 in .45ACP from 1977, but VERY few were made. There have been a couple of threads about it. The Jovinos are another .45 snub to look out for. Bottomline: grips do make a big difference. I typically use the .45 in urban carry and the .44 in the sticks.

Thanks for all the replies. $1450, huh? Wow. I know it's the sickness talking, but I find myself justifying a price like that. I can't see very well these days, so I have been gravitating to big bore combat guns. A high quality 3" SS revolver in 45acp is the perfect gun, for me. It would outlast me, and probably my offspring too. Everyone here would jump at the chance to pick up a mint Triple Lock for $1450. A 3" 625 is worth more, again, to me.

A group picture!

Here's my SS 3" guns! The Ahrends grips make all the difference in the world for me. The worst one of the bunch is the 657 or maybe the 629 with 240gr hunting loads. The rest shoot about the same for me!

I have a Horton 3" 625 in 45 LC. I have the rubber Pac Grippers on it and it is easy on the hand. I also have a 2 1/4" 325 in 45 ACP and even with Decelarator grips the recoil is sharp. But, it is light, easy to conceal so I carry it fishing/hiking with 230 +p Hornady or BuffaloBore flat points. I practice with cheap 45 ACP ball. 50 rounds of ball and 6 Buffalo Bore is all the fun my right hand wants.

help

i just got a 3 inch, m29-4, monogrips, rounded butt, unfluted cylinded, full barrel under lug magaported barrel, sn#bdzxxxx. after i looked throught s&w dicussion groups i keep getting unmatching info on the gun. i was told buy the own where i got the gun that it was a lew horton gun. could some one help me on what i have.
any info will be a great help. i call it a 2 inch gun due to the fact that barrel is 2 inchs from front of frame to end of barrel.
