I bought a sw n2 with a so-called “half plate” finish.
Its finish is worn but I think it is original even if the barrel may have been re-blued (but I doubt it)
The barrel and the frame assembly numbers are the same (uu2), the cylinder is mismatched.
The serial number is 15394
By consulting the model2project listing, I noticed that the number 15394 appears twice and not in my finish.
Consulting the Butterfields catalog for the sale of the John Otteman collection, I noticed that this same number appeared in the list of factory engraved n2s
I can understand an error in reading the numbers, an error in transcribing the numbers, a bad estimate of the finish, a different later finish, or the existence of a factory duplicate.
I still find that there is a lot of difference for the same numbers.
a factory letter could tell me that it is blue, nickel-plated ,half plate or engraved when this may not be the case with mine
What do you think?
