Names for grandfathers.

I never met my Dad's parents but my Mom's parents I called gramaw and grampaw. My youngest grandchild calls me grampo and my Wife, Mimi. I believe that Mimi, perhaps spelled differently, means grand mother in french? Oh well, It's all good....
Peace,

So I am Grumps and my wife of two years, not wanting to step on ex wife's toes, chose Dee Dee for herself. Her name is Donna. Turns out she was the smart one as the grandson was able to say her name first. We just shorten it to DD. Sometimes when I am feeling brave I call her ole Double D. So far all I get is dirty looks.

My kids have called me Pop since they could talk, so I figgered I'd become Grand-Pop. But when I went visit my daughter today (and the world's most photographed child) we somehow decided I'd be Pop-Pop. Not what I expected, but it beats Auld Poop, which is what #2 son calls me.

I'm learning fast. I brought donuts, and Mr Grumptybritches quickly decided I was alright after all. Bribery and extortion are still two of the most effective tools I have.

I'm not sure what names my grandson uses to distinguish his five grandmas. But so far, I have only heard of the one "grandpa". Kind of pedestrian, but it's okay with me.

My dad's parents were Nana & Bapa (I believe my cousin Jerry's pronunciation of Papa - he was the first) They were Welsh & German.
My mom's parents were Croatian - Buba & Dede (Dee Dee).
My mom and dad are Biley (kid's version of Violet?) & Pop to my son. My wife's parents were Grandma Spicer and Grandpa Spicer.

I got to *name* my mom's sister Dorthy - She was always Foffy :) or Fof to almost everyone.

I miss every one of them.......

I called my Moms father Pop-Pop. I never knew my Dads father,he had died long before I was born.
When my daughter asked me what I would like to be called I said "Pop-Pop".

Me too.

My Pop-Pop was one of the finest men ever. He joined the Army in 1919. His 1st Sgt, a WW I vet, was in later life my barber. He was a fine man as well and told me that my Pop-Pop was a fine man and was well respected by all. "Uncle" Al Foy (the barber) was not one to give out compliments lightly.

I hope I'm half the man those two gentlemen were.

I only really knew my mom's parents and they were Gramma and Grampa. My daughter calls my mom Grammy (my dad died when she was 1), and my wife's parents are Poppa and Gramma K (her middle initial) to all of their grand kids.

My granddaughter decided and now I am Poo Paw. Grandson calls me the same. My third grandchild is only five(5) months old and does not see me as much. She has yet to select a name for me

I started out being Bapa, but that's changed into Grampa. I tried to get a little ethnic and have the grandkids call me Morfar (pronounced more like Moorfar -- Swedish for mother's father), but my daughter would not go along with it.

I think I look like a Morfar

When our first grandchild came along and began to talk, I tried to get her to say "Mommy's daddy" when referring to me, but it didn't stick...:(

I called my grandfather Pop, so did my Dad. I called my paternal grandmother Bud, so did Dad. I never knew why, or have forgotten. Her name was Nita. My maternal grandmother was Granny to all her grandkids, and Great-granny to their kids.

Most of the time I'm known as grandad or grandpa. Sometimes I ask them to call me "The Great OZ"

Both of my kids asked us what we wanted to be called and I'm Grandpa and my wife is Granny. Since the boys are getting older and feistier they sometimes call me Gramps.

Well, when the first granddaughter came along, we all decided on Grandpa; all but her. We said Grandpa, she said Bacca. We said no, Grandpa, she said Bacca. No one knows what a Bacca is, but I am one. Of course her brother followed suit, since my daughter, son in law and wife converted to Bacca by that time.

Skip forward 7 yrs and a new grandson from different son and 60 miles away and I'm thinking this is the time to clear this up. No dice.

II want my grandkids to call me Jed which is my nickname from childhood

Not Bluto? :D

I always called my Grandpa "Grampa."

He worked for Union Pacific his whole life and retired in Salina, Kansas. He was hit by a train on his way fishing back in 76. He walked away from the accident and died later that day from internal injuries.

It's been one of my greatest regrets that I couldn't remember the last time I told him I loved him. But he was a hard headed old German and probly woulda just "Grumphed." ;)

Since the boys are getting older and feistier they sometimes call me Gramps.

Sure it's not you that's getting older & feistier? :D

This are the common names for grandparents in the Netherlands, It works fine for me. I can't find the pictures where my wife put them in the computer. Later I will place some nice pictures of my grandson.
