The Chicago dog is always a top choice and the only dog exempted from being on a proper New England Bun:

And, it goes without saying that (except for the Chicago Dog) the dog has to be a correct Red Hot Dog:

Other than that, I have no opinion on the subject.

1. Ambassador skin-on with Pickapeppa and chopped Vidalia onion.
2. Chicago-style: mustard, relish, onion, tomato, celery salt, sport peppers and a pickle spear.
3. Coney Island, when you can get good ones. The good old places keep going out of business.
4. I'll eat a chili dog, with or without cheese. Dairy Queen has some cheap and toxic ones. I'll always take those over White Castle, which may be faint praise. Conchita prefers the sliders.

I have had what purported to be Skyline chili, but only over spaghetti, never on a dog. I wouldn't turn one down, but first I'd try to find 1,2, or 3 above.

I lived in Cincinnati for 10 years off of a diet of Skyline cheese coneys, 5 ways and 3 ways. I like um with chili, onions, mustard, shredded cheddar and Texas Pete. You can't really taste the hot dog, but with all that other delicious stuff, who wants to? When making my own, I use knock wurst instead of a dog, with the sausage coming straight off the grill.

Jimmy John's Pipin' Hots from the stand in PA are the best I have ever had.
A little kraut and Gulden's spicy mustard are just fine for me.

My freezer has bags of sabrett dogs and hot sabrett dogs too with there bags of onions. Try there Taylor ham slices too its gourmet spam. I'm ordering there jumbo dogs next. I online order them.

If your in nyc hit a sabrette hot dog cart. Dogs, pretzels and a soda.

Rutts is right down the road from where I am.

Hot Grill is another good stop if you know the area.

Remembered there was part of package left from the grandkids. Normally the dog would get them but I did eat 2.

Yep. Nothing like ground-up pig lips and sphincter muscles on a bun, slathered up with spicy mustard, chopped onions, and sauerkraut!

Remember, you're talkin' to an ol' boy who used to raise two pigs a year and knows exactly what goes into what! But I still love 'em! Yumm!
