Presently, the sword is stuck tightly in its leather sheath or I would take separate photos. I'd love to know ANYTHING about it.

Pretty generic looking. Guessing you didn't get any info from whoever you got it from? are there any markings near the hilt? If not, I would guess it was made by a local blacksmith but could be from almost anywhere. Farmers tool like a corn knife or machete maybe. Perhaps some type of short sword/tool combo from a rural area?

Looks like it was designed to be a tool rather than a weapon.

Was it stored in the sheath which then shrunk causing extraction difficulties? Wiggling / rocking it back and forth doesn't help?

Well, I don't know about my google-fu but I do know that I called it "native" for a reason. My dim recollection was that it was a tribesman's sword but whether it was African or Latin American or Asian was a blank. Thanks to "I also cook" :D now I know! Well done, sir!

The blade is mostly very sharp, so please handle with care!

Which explains why I have not tried to remove the blade from the sheath.....

WE have had a number of machetes that were very similar. One was sharpened on both edged. That one went to Africa for a number of safaris. It had red micarta scales with bronze rivets (3).
