Navy Victory

I picked up a Navy Victory model (paid 300) with marking on two places.(top and side) It also has a 5 with circle around it ? Could that be a rack #.
I'm new to this forum . I collects military pistol, German and U.S.. I also collect Colt revolvers and pocket pistols. I've extended it to (US and European) vest pocket pistols and holsters. This collecting stuff is addictive and it's all about the search!

Neat revolver. These are usually referred to as "Red Navy" because that marking on the side was originally filled with red paint. What is the SN--V22665?

That 5 looks like it was crudely scratched with a nail. Not part of any military marking.

The "OCD" marking may be from some Civil Defense unit. Many Victory revolvers ended up with Civil Defense groups. They could have been the ones to also mark the "5". Just a guess.....

Steve, I think you were right on with your comment of "Office of Civil Defense" O.C.D.. When the navy retired pistols they were sometimes sent to branches of Civil Defense. Other comments were appreciated. (This was mentioned on another forum too.)
