The "usual suspects" in the NC House of Reps introduced a bill today (HB-1209) entitled:

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT TO REQUIRE A PERMIT FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN ASSAULT WEAPON OR LONG GUN.

It adds "long guns" and "assault weapons" (which is redundant) to the Jim Crow era Sheriff issued pistol purchase permit.

It will probably go nowhere; however, it bears watching now and in the future IF the leftists gain control again.

My mom now lives in NC. She is a native Virginian, moved to NC, then to SC, then back to NC. She thinks us Virginians have lost our minds with our newly enacted restrictions on the Bill of Rights. I keep telling her that it is a movement, coming down from the northeast and NC is next on their list.

And Maryland won't be far behind.

My patrilineal ancestor arrived in Virginia in 1672/4 as an indentured servant. His youngest son led the family to North Carolina. After a bit, some of them went over the mountains into Tennessee, youngest son went to South Carolina. Several generations later, my grandfather moved to Oklahoma. In my lifetime, Oklahoma passed the Self Defense Act, the Stand Your Ground Act (not the actual name, I think), the Castle Act (?), and Constitutional Carry. Thank you, ancestors for continuing to move to freedom.

There was a time not long ago that this garbage would have been unheard of in Virginia.
Don’t be complacent and think it won’t happen where you’re at. It will if not actively stopped.
Remember now also that many people from states that are not 2nd amendment friendly are leaving their states and moving to ours.
Unfortunately, I doubt that they’ll leave their attitudes where they came from.
Stay ahead of the onslaught.

I lived in NC for most of my adult life until I reclocated to Florida. The handgun permit system is a cash cow for the counties and is therefore has no chance of repeal. I suspect that the assault rifle/long gun permit requirement will be welcomed by most county governments if approved. The passage of that bill will require any gun buyer to purchase a permit for any firearm.
More money for the county tills and more infringement on the rights of citizens. Glad I left North Carolina.

All this nonsense will stop in Georgia, so Florida will be safe.

The problem we have here in Florida is all the transplants from NY and other NE states moving here and then voting for the same things that ruined the states they came from. From North of Orlando through the Panhandle are still mainly native Floridians that will fight for their 2nd amendment rights but not so much for Orlando south and total the mess down on the southeast coast where they have destroyed everything that was once good about the area.

This is something that Rick Scott and Desantis haven't figured out yet. they really think those bailing from the NE are their friends and believe the way they do, they don't. The left loonies from CA did it to CO. Next will be FL. Look no further than SE FL and Orlando. All dems. Not sure about Naples.
