NC State Fair

We're leaving in the morning for the Holly Springs area, we have friends in Clayton.
Any do's or don'ts for visiting the NC State Fair this week? I'm not into pig racing or the like , but sure do appreciate some nice food. I might even try one of those Sloppy Joe Donut Burgers Is everything gonna be fried?

We'll be pleased to have you visitin' our fair state and our State Fair, Ladder!

Just want to point out that it's the traveling carnival folks who come up with those exotic fried things like the Sloppy Joe Donut Burgers, not our local churches and civic groups that open up their annual eateries on the fairgrounds. There, you'll find good ol' standard Southern delicacies like fried chicken, barbeque (chopped pork, if it's true NC barbeque), cat-head biscuits, and other stuff like you'd find at a church picnic.

Fortunately for you, neither the local university's football team is playing at home this weekend, nor are my beloved Tar Heels just down the road in Chapel Hill, so traffic won't be as much of a nightmare as usual. It'll be elbow to elbow inside, though, but you'll have a great time I'm sure.

It's a state fair, and a pretty good one I think, so enjoy! Y'all come back now, y'hear?

I was in Chapel Hill during a home game a few years ago, but really had no idea what was in store. Besides the horrible traffic and endless detours, it was kind of fun. The hotel we stayed in was HQ central for Tarheel Alumni, we didn't know that either. They sure know how to party down there.

No matter what happened it was tame, compared to Franklin St. during the ACC tourney.

I went to N.C. State back in the late 70's. The State Fair sometimes used to be on the same October weekend as the UNC- NC State football game. You talk about some traffic problems!

I lived in Chapel Hill until 9/2001; I kept a basketball schedule in the car so I knew when a home game was being played. That determined my route home from work. Chapel Hill is a nice little town when the kids aren't in school. Otherwise, it's not my kind of place.
