NcStar Courage 4x32 Scope Review

The first issue with the mount is that it's on backwards. ;) (doesn't really matter as long as it works for you)

I've never seen a cheap integrated QD mount that I thought worked well enough to regularly use. The QD on my Primary Arms Micro Dot riser is a joke. In general, my procedure with these types things is to mount the optic and leave the QD lever alone.

One thing about buying dimestore optics is that quality control is really hit and miss. The advantage of buying from rrages is there is no hassle with issues. You don't like it, return it-- No games. If there's something you need answered, he knows about the stuff he sells and can help you out. I've read of him sending parts that his customers broke or lost. These are the type things that sets rrages and Primary Arms apart from Amazon and others.

Phil,

I own what I'd consider to be a "spendy" QD mount (The American Defense) and while it's head and shoulders above the mount on the Mark III, I will say this... I've had my Mark III on and off my rifle hundreds of times so far... With absolutely zero issues.

Even my American Defense QD mount had to be "adjusted" to fit the rails properly, but unlike the NcStar QD, the AD mount holds the adjustment nut "captive" so once it's adjusted it won't ever come loose. But you get what you pay for.. A good American Defense or LaRue scope mount will cost you more than an NcStar scope! :)

So the mounts are total pieces of junk, but loctite fixed the only issue you're aware of?

? i wasnt the one that said they were pieces of junk, i said it came loose after a few rounds so we loctited it up and dint have anymore problems

Wait, so RRAGES actually prices and ships as advertised, and HEs the bum, not the fly-by-night Amazon guy who obviously bait and switched you?

All I can say is my Mark III uses the same type of QD mount and mine works fine..

Here's a video I made that might explain it.

YouTube - How to mount your NcStar Mark III Scope (QD Mount).....

....... The magazine follower is what pushes up on the bolt release when the mag is empty, so if the mag is dirty or the bolt release is dirty it may be sticking.

Thanks Brett - as always, a huge help to others on here! I don't have any loctite handy, but I'm sure this will fix the issue. I really think it just that one adjustment screw on the side that works its way loose really easily. I'll have to check out the bolt release and see if I can figure out what's up there.

Funny thing is, that's how rrages.com shows the mount on the gun. I just like it because it gets the scope closer to my eye that way, and my face stays clear of the charging handle. :) Like you said, it's all personal preference.

I'm one that appreciates good customer service! That is really good to hear that so many people are liking rrages.com. After all of the good reviews on here, I'm sold on the idea of trying that site in the near future. Thanks for the input.

Hmmm.. Not trying to make enemies here. But I do want to clarify out that I NEVER called the guy at rrages a "bum". I merely pointed out a good deal on the same set up elsewhere, and was blown away at how much cheaper it was. I understand now that a lot of people have had great service from him in the past, and I'm convinced I'll shop there in the future.

Also - I didn't know Amazon was a fly by night store! I should have been more specific in my first post. I bought from Amazon directly, you know, when it says "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com." I've never known them to pull the old "bait and switch" on anybody. I did a little more research, and it's actually the NcSTAR product description that is innacurate. People are using it all over the internet in the product description for this scope. Heck, even rrages.com is saying the model has a "green reticle." But there is only one 4x32 courage scope out there right now, and they have a black reticle.

Just wanted to clear up those two points for you.

Well rather than just sit here and slam how bad of a mount it is, which I can't substantiate since I don't own one. Would you care to take a few moments to explain to me why it's such a bad mount? Do you have any specifics on what the issues are? I'm curious! And besides, any real specifics can help buyers make an educated decision.

I already explained why it's a crap mount in my first response in this thread. I also explained that I have two of these mounts (both ordered at the same time).

Right. There is a point of diminishing returns when outfitting a non competition recreational fun gun like my 1522. While I'm quick to point out shortcomings of some of the dimestore stuff I have bought, they all do the job as needed. Though... the QD on the Micro Dot is particularly bad.... Marshall of Primary Arms even went on another forum with instructions on how to grind off part of the lever to make it work. I doubt Mark LaRue would be offering such solutions for his products:D

Yep I went back and read what you said. Sounds to me like the scope wasn't seated in the rings correctly. That's why any diehard marksman will tell you, scope mounts should be reamed and lapped to size.

I don't use ring mounts for that reason!

I thought your issues may have been with the QD part of the mount, which it not the case in your instance.

I thought that too - I swapped mounts between the two scopes, swapped rings and caps, mixed the rings and caps between the two mounts, and even took the removable ring off and turn it around. Nothing solved the POI issues. I have since mounted both scopes on Burris PEPR mounts, and the issues are now completely gone (I think the Eraticator scope has five clicks of windage added, and the Nikon has two), and the old NCStar mounts are on their way to the local dump.

Like I said, I'll never own another NC-Star product.
